Credit Cards for overseas cash withdrawals.

The cheapest way to get cash is usually from overseas ATMs with a no fee credit card eg Halidax Clarity as long as you are careful that thru don't apply a local charge.
I don't know why the advice pages tell you to pay in full rather put the card in credit by making a transfer before you go or as soon as you withdraw
In the destinations I go to, I get the best rates and pay zero interest or charges

A no fee card, doesn't have to be a credit card it can be a debit card like Starling.
It is against the terms and conditions of almost every credit card to intentionally put the card into a credit balance and many will bounce the payment if you attempt to. You can pay it off straight away but be aware that some banks limit the number of monthly payments you can make to the card... you may as well follow the article's advice of paying it off in full when the statement comes or just use a debit card instead0 -
Thanks. I have been using a Santander Zero and Halifax Clarity card for many years. Both permanently with credit balances and never had an issue. I do accept that it may be in their T&C's though. Thank you for your response0

It’s because as Sandtree says, it is not officially allowed.Jollycity said:The cheapest way to get cash is usually from overseas ATMs with a no fee credit card eg Halidax Clarity as long as you are careful that thru don't apply a local charge.

The Halifax Clarity card states clearly in its terms that this is not permitted. If you do plan to do this just be careful and perhaps have alternative payment cards with you on your trip. The worst thing would be if that was the only card you had on a trip and it had been stopped because the terms of use had been breached.0 -

And so do you want to be on the first day of your holiday overseas when they decide to enforce those T&Cs and cancel your card? When there are other ways of operating your card, or other cards that don't require a breach of T&Cs, that don't risk it being cancelled and have the same end effect isn't that more sensible?Jollycity said:Thanks. "I don't know why the advice pages tell you to pay in full rather put the card in credit by making a transfer before you go or as soon as you withdraw."Maybe because those who produce the advice are in the best position to do so ?
