TalkTalk matches or beats Now Broadband offer when threatened with cancellation.

Options
My TalkTalk contract was due to renew. I was paying £26/month with £4 for TV and £14 for unlimited anytime calls, totalling £44/month. I called them but the best offer was £23.50/month with £4 for TV and £5 for unlimited anytime calls; this would also include a 3.7%+inflation rise in both April 2022 and April 2023. Since I have a couple of Amazon Fire TV sticks, I decided to drop the TV and go with Now Broadband at £20/month with free anytime calls for 12 months.
After starting the cancellation process, I got a letter asking to call TalkTalk saying they could offer £20/month. I spoke to them and got £20/month with both the TV and anytime packages included free for 18 months (although there will be an inflation increase in April 2023). Total saving of £432 on my original contract.
So, I've cancelled the switch, which also saves the hassle of setting up a new router, etc, and perhaps having to do the same thing again next year!

You have done very well starnamer- my contract was also due for renewal. I was paying £26 per month ('pm') and received an e-mail  some weeks ago offering £23.50 pm for a new contract. I haggled with them yesterday, as I had seen a better deal with John Lewis, which included broadband; a new router and evening and weekend calls.
TalkTalk said that they could price match to £19pm, although this would not include evening and weekend calls, which I didn't have with them anyway. They explained that they would charge £21 pm with a £24 credit for the year.
This credit is not showing in 'My Account'. I contacted them via web-chat today and was told that there is a credit of £24.
I received an e-mail yesterday saying,
'Even better, we're happy to confirm that we'll be giving you a goodwill credit of £24.00. This is just our way of saying 'thanks' for being a TalkTalk customer'.

I have been with them since 2004 and would rather that this goodwill credit was tangible, they are in fact, just words on a screen, so they haven't 'price matched' at all. Should I ask for a direct credit to my bank?

I am thus paying £21 pm for TV and Fibre 35, which is a saving of £5 pm. I would need to pay an additional £5 pm boost for calls.
In reality, switching wasn't worth the postage required to send TalkTalk's equipment back, to then buy (for £145) another TV box. So I feel rather stuck.

But as you say, perhaps next year?!
