I have received an email that my energy prices will be going up in April.
But I am on a fixed tariff for the next six months. Can they make changes to a fixed tariff?

No, not if you are on a genuine fixed tarriff.
if you’re on a BG welcome variable tarrif and they made a mistake with the date then that is a different matter.

What exactly does your email say?
Are they changing your tariff, or your monthly DD?
Which supplier are you with and what is the name of the tariff?

I am on the B Gas zero fixed Oct 22 tariff.
However, there have been a number of problems with BGas.
After changing from Ebico, nothing has gone smoothly.
Finally, in October 2021, I sent a letter of complaint ( a number of problems) and cancelled my DD.
Even to this, I received no reply.
I did get through to them by phone in January, but they said that another team would have to deal with the complaint.
They did cancel all the charges that had be incorrectly added, said the complaint had been escalated, and gave me an email address for further complaints.
They said I would be contacted by a specific team within two weeks, but this did't happen (I only get threatening emails).

I'm fed up with chasing after them.

Does your account still show that you are on the Zero Fixed Oct 22 tariff?
Have you set up your DD again or paid them anything since October last year?

These are the issues I raised in my complaint in October.
This complaint has not been answered.

If your account doesn't say "Zero Fixed Oct 22", then you're not on that tariff. If the tariff listed is a variable one, BG can vary it.
Which tariff shows on your account?
    Edit to add:
From this post, it seems you took a punt on that tariff in August last year. did you ever get a confirmation?

I only get internet access at the library for emails and posts, so I can't see what the tariff says.
This (being billed with an incorrect tariff) was one of many complaints I made in October.
I did go to the library last August and used Chat to change tariff. They said it would change in 5 days time.

I wonder if cancelling the direct debit has terminated the fixed price contract.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I doubt the tariff change ever went through in the first place, as a lot of the requests were knocked back when they reached someone with the authority to make the change.
The successful ones tended to be the ones processed immediately on the phone.
This thread is going nowhere though without details of what is currently shown on the account...
