You certainly need to read your agreement as Googling finds some marques charging in excess of £1K for a missed service as it is something that will affect the residual value and cannot be undone like a scratch or scuff.
Ouch - think I will have to bit the bullet then! Thanks
What did you think they would charge you £50?  I'm sure they have dealt with cheapskates before!
  • Just shows how toxic leasing cars has become when questions like this get asked.

If your car needs a services then get it done, it is for your safety and the reliability of the car and can avoid unexpected problems and much bigger costs in the long run.

I buy used cars and I don't touch any that have missed their service schedules by a few months / few thousands miles and I've always wonder why people would do that I know I've found out why.

Yes, it possible as I have read on other forums - VWFS for example have charged people £50 for a missed service. I was trying to see if thats the norm or not... so your not very helpful post isn't very smart...

A service has absolutely nothing to do with safety. That's the job of a MOT. Do you understand the point of a lease? You're hiring a car and then handing it back. Why would I care about the unexpected problem or costs in the long run? This forum amazes me.

You've just confirmed my first sentence and proved how little you know about cars.

Really? A new car doesn't need an MOT for three years. Three years without anyone looking at the brakes and tyres?

What rot.  Most of the items on the service list are checking tyres, steering, lights, brakes etc.

A lot of places used to do cheap oil changes. With a cheap oil change and MOT there weren't many items left to do. Things like pollen, air and fuel filter and spark plugs which are normally DIYable. I could see a strategy for the right person.

The lease company fees for missing the service will almost certainly be higher than the cost of the service, because they'll need to pay for the service and the vehicle will have a reduced value.

Find a local grubby looking independent garage to do the service and you should save a bit more.

A Lease is a contract - you have agreed to service the vehicle in accordance with the published schedule and failure to do so can result in a penalty.
There is another point to consider - services are dictated by time/mileage. IF for whatever reason the new car is further delayed you could in theory need two services not one.

Is the new car coming via the same leasing company - have you thought of asking for a contribution towards the service cost considering it is not your fault they cannot deliver the  new car on the due date.
