how do I set up a Moto G50 mobile?

So finally bought the new phone yesterday.  Chap explained all sorts about it for me but I forgot to ask how to get it started.

I pressed the power button and nothing happened so I decided it probably needed to be charged - which I've now done.  But still nothing.

The Motorola user guide doesn't seem to have anything about what the initial set up steps are as obviously they are so obvious to everyone.  Except me of course.

Help please!

You need to hold the power button down until it starts.

Should start up regardless of whether a SIM is in it.
  • Did it show any indication of charging when you plugged it in, even just for 10 seconds or so? Usually some kind of animated graphic of a battery on the screen. How long did you charge it for?

yes - got the battery image for a few seconds and it shows 100% and then the screen goes blank.

Hmm, on my G31 there are several buttons on the right hand side of the screen.
From the bottom, counting up ...
A black button, which is the power button
a grey button - volume up and down
another grey button - google assistant

Are you pressing the right one?

  • Is this a brand-new phone out of a sealed box? Standard power on is to hold down the power button (bottom-most button) for a couple of seconds. If that doesn't work then can try a boot to safe mode but if this is a brand new phone I'd be thinking about returning it.
