Freesat box ..can I place it on the floor / should I get a smaller recordable one ?

Options
Going through a declutter at the moment .

I like the setup of my tv/ audio on the display cabinet . That is apart from the Humax recordable Freesat box ontop.

I was thinking of placing it on the carpeted floor underneath the display unit  , but doubt if that's recommended for ventilation purposes.

my other train of thought , was to see if there is a smaller size about the size of a Mac mini or Apple TV box. That would work, but probably costly .

Your thoughts please .

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't place any electrical device on a carpeted floor unless it was designed for the purpose.
  • Piece of hardboard or ply cut to size would probably be ok, not pretty but may be hidden?

the smaller box ( if it exists) would solve problem .

The only thing guaranteed to happen with electrical equipment on the floor is that it will almost certainly overheat.  And then pack up.  And then need replacing.  There is a reason why electrical items that sit "on the floor" tend to be raised above it and not sit squarely on the floor itself.
  • Thanks everyone!
I knew the floor was a bad idea before posting tbh.  So we’ll forget about that

Any recommendations for a small Freesat  box going forward ?

It'll be fine if you put it on a piece of wood of the same size or slightly larger

That's my thought really .... and maybe a on a small shelf too to allow airflow (or if you're very inventive, make some legs for it!)

Not very MSE if you burn out the box from overheating, or worse.

This is true 😺. I won't be doing that . It looks like it's best to leave it where it is for now, and if there is a cheap ish smaller box then I'd get one of those as it would fit very nicely in the display cabinet .
