Lodger Landlord

My lodger chipped my new bath and tiles by a razor in a recently installed bathroom. The chips was repaired but they are still visible. I am wondering if I can ask a lodger for
compensation towards the decreased value of the bathroom. The chips are small but you can imaging what I feel.

What does your lodgers agreement say about damage? Isn't that what your contents insurance is for?

I'm struggling to understand how the damage occurred. A standard shaving razor vs a ceramic tile and bath? Surely not even an accidental drop would cause such damage.

Which country are you in?
Who paid for repairing the chips?
What in ££ is 'the decreased value of the bathroom?'
If you were told that the value of the bathroom is unchanged, would you then seek compensation for your hurt feelings instead?4 -
How will the decreased value (if the case) of the bathroom affect you? Were you planning on reselling it? How would you measure this?
I can see why you would be miffed but it was an accident and one you take when you live with others .

A lodger is, of course, responsible and liable for any damage he causes, other than normal wear and tear, just like a tenant.I too wonder how this happened, but assuming the damage was caused by the lodger, of course you can claim the cost of repair and/or compensation for the reduction in the condition of the bath.2

A bath is acrylic. Not sure what the tiles are. It couldn't been done by a fall as there were 3 identical chips( one on bath and 2 on the tiles next to the bath at the ending ). I saw shaving hair around the edge of a bath.
Lodgers agreement says that lodgers must pay for the damages caused.
I am planning to sell a house in few years. Obviously the house price could be affected by a faulty bath.
I don't know how to measure the damage. That's why I am asking. The cost for the bathroom was about £7000 and done in the end of August.
Thank you very much for your comments. Much appreciated.0 -

Thank you very much for your comments. Much appreciated.Depending on how many years is “a few” you might find buyers considering redoing the bathroom anyway. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
Have you spoken to the lodger about it? What have they said?
I'm still not sure what has happened here. Did the lodger admit causing the damage and tell you what had happened? Or did you just see ‘shaving hair’ near the chipped area and assume (it was the lodger, in the bathroom, with a razor 😬)?1 -
A lodger didn't admit, but no one else could do it.
