With gas prices going through the roof can I stop my gas supply and go solely electric. I have electric shower and access to electric heaters. Basically can I run my house on electric alone and get my gas supply cut off and have one bill. Is it possible to do. I need electric but I'm not 100% sure of costs for stopping gas  supply etc. I'm with BRITISH GAS .
Is it viable and what's your thoughts. Are there any pitfalls?

Would it? could it be cheaper taking into consideration extra usage and only one standing charge? I cook electric so gas is for heating and hot water alone.

Heating and hot water are still cheaper by gas.

But hot water would be for pots and  w/mc only. Heating would be limited as every house ATM. washing machine is used 3-4 times per week. I cannot think of any other uses for hot water. I'm classed as low usage customer overall.

You can ask British Gas to disconnect - there will probably be a one-off charge.

Gas is still the cheapest way to heat a home.

The only pitfall I can see of going all electric is the cost. Most washing machines these days have cold fill cycles so you wouldn't want hot water for that. But I still don't think that going all-electric will be cheaper.

Why not call BG and see what they say? They will be able to advise you more than we can.

What are your annual gas and electric consumption (in KWh's not £) ?

Do you own or rent ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

You'll want a small amount of hot water for pot-washing, as you say, and handwashing... How were you planning to get that? Do you have an immersion heater you were going to use?

To answer the original question, it's almost certainly possible to have your gas supply cut off, but you'll need to phone British Gas and ask for the process and costs. Whether or not that's cheaper overall for you depends on how your electricity usage will be affected.

I think taking a holistic look at your energy usage would be best.
Electric showers cost considerably more to use than gas heated hot water showers, by far the most expensive way to shower.
Electric heaters cost quite a lot more than gas central heating, even storage heaters on E7 they still cost around 50% more.
The gas standing charge is is unlikely to outweigh the additional cost of using electricity.

Trust me, your cheaper option would be to get shot of your electric shower and have it replaced with one that runs from your existing gas boiler. Only having electricity as your option is beginning to be a VERY expensive way. (Once the April price increase hits, a 15 or so minute shower washing/conditioning my hair is likely to cost me in the region of 80p - it would be a LOT cheaper with gas!) heating too - as an example, our small oil filled rad currently costs anywhere between 11p - 25p an hour to run - that will shortly increase to up to 35p an hour for us - that’s one small heater. To heat a whole house we’d need several more, and probably larger ones…

This would be an electric cost unless your washing machine has hot water fill

Do you realise that gas is used to generate electricity, and so going electric-only wouldn't shield you from the impact of high gas prices?

Can I clarify quite what you meant by this?

From April price cap Gas will be around 7.5 p/kWh whereas Electricity will be 28-29 p/kWh.

By removing Gas you'd save yourself £100 a year in standing charges, but unless you have some desperately inefficient gas heating then it's going to cost you significantly more to heat via electricity.
