In the South West the dual fuel standing charges with EDF on DD will be £288 per year, so sadly £200 is low in comparison.london21 said:Chid1 said:I wondered if there was a way to do it without informing the landlord. I haven;t used one unit since October and yet I'm facing a standing charge of nearly £200 per year under the new rates. I can no longer find a "no standing charge" tariff.
Something does not seem right, that is so high.0 -
50p/day is £180/yr, so yes "almost £200" is believable.london21 said:

Maybe he has been beamed up to the enterprise?coupleuk said:You can apply to have your Electric supply "de-energised" which is not the same as having it disconnected altogether.
BUT there is even a charge just to have a computer tick box pressed to de-energise and then to re-energise again.0 -
People use solar garden lights indoors, And the phone could be charged on a small solar panel and car battery, or just a powerbank that has a built in solar cell, Or they have a car to charge up in/ public charging/ work charging.

Everything they have is wind up![Deleted User] said:Surely this is a wind up.11 -
I don't think this is a wind up. They say they're in social housing, which might imply they have limited income. Not always the case but more likely.
I have been seriously considering turning off my heating. If you can't afford to pay the gas or electricity what do you do?
It's a lot of money and if you're already struggling then what can you do?0 -

But they are claiming that they have not used a single unit of electricity since October.
So not even a single light bulb.
It is that, that seems unbelievable, not that they are struggling financially or are having to dramatically reduce their usage.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)3 -

The difference is because of where you live. In the south west region it will be 51.6 p per day on a price cap tariff, so £188 per year.london21 said:
