nvidia returns - problem.

Mid October 2021 I buy a nvidia shield TV pro 2019 from Amazon. Paid for via Amex credit card in case that makes a difference somewhere along the line?
Mid December '21 is when I finally take it out of the box. Yes i'm aware that it doesn't matter I waited 2 months to take it out of the box, the warranty will have started in October. I'm just giving you the full picture.

Last week or so it stopped working.

Story a little shorter, nvidia give the returns a thumbs up.

Weirdly (to me) they only want the device. It could be a power adapter issue for all we know but hey ho, they're the brains.
The brains that don't sell power adapters separate.

I check the label and it's a FedEx label. Great...not.

Problem is my nearest FedEx is all in a 2 hour and 100 mile round trip.

I contact them and say I can't make that journey. Can we not do a UPS label or something else that reasonably allows me to drop this off? I don't expect the courier service on my doorstep. The nearest UPS for example is 6 mile away (on my way to work) but 2 hours and 100 miles? Especially when they specify not to return the whole thing (& therefore we may not even be solving the issue by exchanging the device!)?? Come on.

Anyway, they said no, only FedEx labels are allowed.

Now I know one option is to make that trip, or not. Ok that's two options.

But that's pretty excessive & unreasonable I'd say.

Is there anything I can do about this to get any joy or is it a simple case of either make the trip or not - & end up with a £180 paperweight that lasted 2 month & will end up getting binned?

Depending on the value on it you might be able to drop at a retail point. Used that service the other week for another return, but it was low value. Worse case book a pickup?

JustAnotherSaver says they bought an nvidia device from Amazon which cost £180. They would like to return it to the manufacturer by Fedex. However Fedex website says 'Returning a parcel couldn’t be simpler, just follow the return instructions from the shipper and apply the label to your parcel. Please note that parcels should weigh less than 15kgs, be smaller than 90x60x60cm and have a declared value of less than £75.'
The device therefore cannot be returned by Fedex.

OP has no consumer rights with the manufacturer nvidia. Their consumer rights are solely with Amazon. Amazon have well established procedures for returning faulty purchases which offer a choice of couriers. The last time I returned something to Amazon I had a choice of a local drop shop using a pre-printed Hermes label or if I preferred a pre-printed label for Royal Mail with drop off at my local Post Office.

OP should return the faulty Invidia device to Amazon.

Pay for the shipping yourself, that seems like the easy option, no?

Your contract is with AMAZON and not NVidia, so contact Amazon to let them know that the item is faulty, and return it to THEM! You are claiming under the Consumer Rights Act, not the warranty.

  • Thanks for the advice.

I am currently at work so not able to do anything for the next 7-8hrs or so.

In the meantime.... What is my deadline with Amazon as far as returning it to them goes? Bearing in mind I bought it mid October so we're just over a week shy of being 5 months in.

Alderbank - thanks for that. Wasn't aware that the limit was £75. Setting me up for a fall there with that one.

And for the 'buy your own label' - yes its a possibility, but nvidia say they only accept fedex. So if I was to risk say Ups and they say sorry you didn't play by our rules then I'd be taking a £180 gamble.

But now from you guys I learn I should be chasing Amazon so using another label to send to nvidia is hopefully not necessary anyway.

How do you go about getting in touch with Amazon for a return this far in? The only time I've ever done amazon returns is within their 30 days and you click via the order you placed - though we're well past 30 days now.

They're not though. As nvidia are paying for postage, the issue is theirs if it goes missing/gets damaged.

    Use Amazon chat.

There is no time limit as such (6 years limitations in E&W, 5 in Scotland) but you'd want to get the issue raised with Amazon before 6 months have past as after 6 months it's no longer taken the goods didn't conform to the contract (i.e have an issue).

Amazon may be great and say return it, they may try to pass you to the manufacturer but your consumer rights are with Amazon (assuming it wasn't sold via a third party seller).

Just use the Amazon chat and tell them it is faulty.

I had a faulty item after 3 months and I was given the choice of a refund or replacement.

  • I'll get on to them after work. Thanks.

Let's say I get that same offer & I opt for replacement. Does my warranty start again on that or am I still 5 months in?

In which case I'd be better off with a refund and buying again.
