in Cutting tax
Apologies this isn't necessarily 'cutting tax' but wasn't too sure which forum board to post on...
Having checked the gov.uk website, it appears based on my estimated earnings, I've calculate that I will have overpaid around £700-800 in income tax. This is mainly due to spending some of the 2021/22 unemployed between May-Sept.
I am currently in full-time employment, so wondered if I need to do anything in order to potentially claim a rebate (if my calculations are right) or if this is done automatically?
For reference, in case I have misunderstood anything along the way...
Estimate Total Salary Income 21/22 - £16133
Estimate Total Tax Paid 21/22 - £1570
Tax code 1251L

Did you hand your P45 to your current employer?0
-
Indeed I did - bit confusing but they also issued my P45, as the organisation I left in May 21, was where I returned to in October 21 in a different capacity!Dazed_and_C0nfused said:Did you hand your P45 to your current employer?0 -
So they should have made any tax refund when they first paid you when you restarted.
What tax code is on your latest payslip?0 -
Well on gov.uk website it actually shows 1251LX and on my most recent payslip, it shows 1251L.Dazed_and_C0nfused said:So they should have made any tax refund when they first paid you when you restarted.
What tax code is on your latest payslip?
Also, the first payslip I received in October 2021, shows 1257L, then 1251L thereafter.

So have a look at your payslips and see when the tax refund was made by your employer0
-
There's been no tax refunded on any payslip - they've been identical since my first one in October.Dazed_and_C0nfused said:So have a look at your payslips and see when the tax refund was made by your employer0 -
what does your last payslip say in regard to earnings to date and tax paid to date?0
-
does it look like you are paying less tax than you should Oct-mar on your Payslips?
i.e. does tax paid look equal to
(Gross - 12510/12) * 20%
or is it less? Is so by how much?0 -
So has your employer not used the details from your P45?Trebor2013 said:
