Are you taking into consideration total tax and total pay from all employments/pensions?

Just noticed I’m on an emergency tax code after 3 months.
i do self assessment so it won’t matter too much, but I’m wondering if there is a delay at hmrc at the moment?
  • The emergency tax code is currently 1257L.

And most of the country will be on it at the moment.  And always is.

Do you mean a tax code that isn't the emergency code?

Likely the emergency code on a non-cumulative basis. (Cue discussion on what is and what isn’t the emergency code and what HMRC incorrectly states on their website.)

    I see that!
I remember this point being hammered home in my training with the Inland Revenue as they called it then. It seems now that, as so many believe the emergency code must have M1 or W1 after it, they have accepted this as fact (even if any code can have either option after it)

My code says 1257L (M1/W1) and NI fable letter A

what I was actually looking as was the cumulative totals which are solely for my 2nd job this year (from nov 21) and do not include my earning from April 21-nov 21.
    i provided a P45 in December.

should the cumulative totals include my previous employment?
  • M1/W1 means the code is being used on a non cumulative basis so no, the details from your previous job wouldn't be included.

But depending on the figures they possibly should be.

But it will all eventually be sorted via your Self Assessment return.
