EON massively overestimating my energy usage.

No need to make mountains out of molehills. They asked a simple question. You've responded. Matter dealt with.Anakah6 said:
If they want proof I'm happy to send them photos of the meter or whatever.MattMattMattUK said:
Either submit a reading at a minimum every month, or get a smart meter installed. If your usage is very low in comparison to average then they will query it, they will also estimate you using more in winter than in summer. For two people in a house with electric only they would estimate usage of between 8,000-12,000, the average being around 9,500 kWh, so the variance of 1,200 kWh a year would be roughly 10-14% overestimation, however if you were saying your usage was particularly low that might flag something up, especially if it was significantly different to your previous usage patterns, which may well have been impacted by lockdown.Anakah6 said:
Maybe I'm getting the wrong unit but we don't use a lot, there's only 2 of us in a small house and we work a lot.MattMattMattUK said:
What are you saying you use for electricity and gas and what are they saying they think you are using? Also, 100kWh is not that much of a variance in estimates either, unless you are saying you only use 100kWh pcm.Anakah6 said:EON sent me a bill for an estimate of over 100kwh more than what I actually use.
I've sent them the actual reading and got an error message saying "that looks a little low, are you sure?"
I put yes and submitted it, but should I be worried that they're gonna overcharge me?
Basically EON estimating double what we actually used and I'm worried as they haven't sent an ammended bill yet.
In future I'll keep on top of the readings rather than waiting til they estimate it, I guess.
Guess I'll give it a few days, see if the bill updates or if they email me again. If not I'll contact them to see what's what.
Thanks for your advice.0 -
Just switch to Variable Direct Debit. Higher bills in winter of course, but you can do the budgeting yourself rather than letting E.On do it for you.0
