EON massively overestimating my energy usage.
EON sent me a bill for an estimate of over 100kwh more than what I actually use.
I've sent them the actual reading and got an error message saying "that looks a little low, are you sure?"
I put yes and submitted it, but should I be worried that they're gonna overcharge me?

Submit a reading once a week, for a while. They should then see the trend for your usage and adjust their systems to give more accurate estimates in the future. How often do you normally submit readings?

We had this with Eon last year. They put up our direct dibet massively and estimated we'd use twice as much energy in December than the previous year. They wouldn't let us reduce the direct debit. We got about £450 in credit before we were allowed to submit meter readings, at which point they brought the direct debit back down to the correct amount, and they've just paid us £300 back of the credit. Don't understand how they can get away with telling you that they'll think you'll use so much more energy than you have previously..0

This 1 year fix with Eon that is just coming to an end only let us submit meter readings once every 3 months last year

There can be all sorts of reasons that are legitimate, in fairness. Lockdown for example increased most people's fuel use - for reasons from being at home more, so using more heating, to cooking at home more because of not being able to eat out and takeaways being closed, right through to more showers being taken by the many folk who'd taken up some form of exercise! Last winter will also show a trend of higher use for heating as it was a cold one - this year is extremely mild so will show the opposite trend, so hopefully the two years will average out.
The best way by far of informing your energy company about your use is regular meter readings - at least monthly! It's also not a bad idea to keep a more comprehensive record of readings yourself, too.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Basically EON estimating double what we actually used and I'm worried as they haven't sent an ammended bill yet.
In future I'll keep on top of the readings rather than waiting til they estimate it, I guess.0 -

Guess I'll give it a few days, see if the bill updates or if they email me again. If not I'll contact them to see what's what.
Thanks for your advice.0
