it fluctuates and its jumping between 340w and 390w at the moment. No heating on, just my laptop, monitor and I do have a small echo show on in the background of my office but thats it.

If the heating pump isn't currently running, then that really is high.

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

  • Nope definitely no pond/tank or any pets of any kind!

I will definitely try the switching main off but will have to do it this evening after work
    Hi,
you could switch it off overnight, even if it is fridge/freezer wont melt, anything else you might notice change in the morning.

I do have an electric shower yep. We only shower in the morning though so that shouldn't be contributing to the overnight usage should it?

That depends on what time you shower - before or after the time you're reading the meter!

The electric shower will certainly be contributing to the overall high usage though - they really are energy gobblers!

It should not use any power unless it is being used. I would double check that the immersion heater has not been left on if you have a hot water tank.

As others have said, turn everything off (at the consumer board) overnight and see if you still have any usage. Also try turning everything off in the house (including the fridge, boiler isolator etc.) and seeing what your usage is, you can then also try turning them on one by one over a period of time to see what might be causing it.

As you live in a terrace there is a possibility that a neighbouring house is connected to your supply. Switching off at the main switch should stop the meter. If you then disconnect everything in the house and turn the main switch back on, the meter should still be stopped. If not, further investigation is required.
