I’ve been waiting for a refund from Bristol Energy since September 2021 long before they went into Administration.
They lied to me twice saying it had been paid but it hadn’t.
I took them to the Ombudsman who ruled in my favour and told BE to pay the refund and £ 30.00 which they didn’t.
British Gas have taken over the credits and I can’t get any sense out of them either.

  • I'm starting to wonder how much these hard up energy suppliers hold in total and where does the interest go?

It should be included in the profit that they are allowed to make.  But then, of course, the capital is included as a liability in the balance sheet so reduces the overall financial position of the company.

When a supplier fails, all consumers become unsecured creditors of the failed company. Prior to the introduction of the Ofgem consumer credit protection, the consumer would be entitled to just pennies in the £ from the failed supplier.

The SoLR takes on responsibility for paying out any credit balances previously held by the failed supplier. It then claims the money back from Ofgem. It follows, I am not sure why you think that the SoLR is holding onto money that it should be paying out? My experience of life is that things go awry it is more often down to a ‘c**k up’ rather than a conspiracy.

  • On Thursday I'll be lending Eon £220...

  • I too have been waiting since February 2022 for a sizable refund of my credit balance. New supplier say I will get it when they receive it from Bristol Energy but no progress after10 months. To whom should I complain. British Energy do not respond to emils (you cannot telephone them)British Gas say no money received. Do I make a complaint to Britis Gas and ask them to approach liquidator of Bristol Energy.I beleive I cannot go to the Ombudsman until I have a complaint rejected. What should I do.

Complain to British Gas. Let the complaints process run its course. If no joy after 8 weeks, complain to the Ombudsman.
