YBS declining (our) Halifax Visa Debit cards?

Options
OH's Halifax debit card declined last night after successful first transaction.. & all attempts this morning (Edge) with YBS.

Tried mine, declined, too. Different browser didn't work either.

Both accepted by Skipton .. so it's YBS systems - but showing as 'no issues'?

CBA waiting longer on phone, so did reward DC qualifiers on Skippy & at better rate now than YBS, should you wish to leave funds there.

Wouldn't surprise me if YBS had stopped the money cycling, and wouldn't surprise me if Skipton were to follow.

Last week I had the exact same issue, with my Lloyds and Bank of Scotland debit cards, that you've been having with Halifax. Even though the amounts were only £500.  I'm wondering if Lloyds Banking Group don't like their debit cards being used to fund a YBS savings account, for some reason.
I fail to see why would LBG have incentive to stop that ?? Keep in mind even though the amount is small but at least LBG are still making money when people spend money using their debitcards. Some banks are even pay you incentives if you spend your money using their debitcards.
The one who pays the price is YBS, not LBG.

You may have a point but I'm not cycling money - I leave our DC payments in the YBS accounts as the rate is OK for relatively small amounts.

I suspect it's bugs with Halifax/YBS's new DC authorisation process - you used to get a password authentication for unrecognised transactions; but for the first time I was getting get a text code to return on HF/YBS DC payment.
  • The laws have recently changed regarding online card payments and you will notice much more online security and fraud checks going forward.

I run an online business and we are getting no end of problems regarding this, I expect when people get used to the extra 3D Secure and similar checks put in case by card processors/businesses it will become more normal but at the moment it does seem to causing some issues.

I had similar with online banking.  First card went through fine for two OTP verified payments.  Second card declined twice (for >£100 deposits) after OTP entry, third payment of £10 declined without OTP screen being displayed at all.

YBS have also changed their payment screen - it now asks for 'Billing Information' with First name and Last name in separate fields, whereas the old system asked for "Card Holder Name" in just one field.  But this alone doesn't fully explain the confirmed/declined payment results I got - even if it might cause a mismatch between the entered cardholder name and the name held by the card issuer.

You might not be cycling but many others do/did. YBS wouldn't be the first Building Society which doesn't take online debit card deposits any longer.

I am just speculating, I don't have any insider info.
