Why am I being charged more than the price cap?

Both my suppliers went bust and I was transferred to British Gas for electric and EDF for gas.
I had assumed that I would be charged at the price cap for both but having looked at the price cap it seems that I'm being charged significantly more.
For gas my tariff is 7.444p/kWh plus 27.22p/day
For electric I'm paying 29.797p/kWh and 54.12p/day
This seems to be far in excess of the figures in the price cap table on MSE website. This table is for average prices but gives no idea of the spread in different areas. I live in Cardiff so South Wales area.
Are these figures correct for the price cap in South Wales?

EDF's website is showing the April price rise rates so I would assume BG are doing the same, you are not currently being charged those rates.
You do realise that payment on receipt of bill is the most expensive way to pay, your (April) electric daily charge is 6p more than paying by DD and 1.5p more per kWh.

I logged in and looked at the My Tariff section so surely that should show what I'm currently being charged and not what I will be charged next month?

No - you will only be charged that increased rate from April

Just wait for your next bill & you will see this is the case

You WOULD think so ,but BG and EDF have jumped the gun by showing the tariffs for post 31st March - the excuse I was given by BG (some weeks ago) was that it was to make it easier for customers to compare future tariffs (not as many suspect due to an IT c**kup) !!

As Molerat says, you're being given the statutory 30 days notice of the price increase. You will save a good deal by paying by direct debit.

Just to add that if you opt for direct debit it doesn't have to be the same amount each month. You can opt to pay the billed amount each month. That way you get the cheaper DD rate but don't lend them money.

Wow - it never really occurred to me that when I login to the site and look at my tariff information it would deliberately show the wrong one!

There is probably some small print somewhere stating what you're actually seeing, and I know one supplier has now added a little 'i' notification to click on to explain this. You're far from the only person to have been caught out by this and it should be clearer.

@baltipine I found similar and complained to EDF, my last update was here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/79016884/#Comment_79016884

However that big blue "i" information box has now disappeared, whether it's because I've read it (more than once) I don't know. Have a look and see if you have one. There's certainly no small print on the page anywhere.
