Surely the delivery point is the homemade box at the end of the road? The OP says the box is far away from the house for them...but then goes on to say it's not for the postie. Which is it?
To be fair to the OP, I don't think they said it was too far for them to walk, just too far away to place cctv.

And someone else has already broached the subject on whether the relative ever had issues with theft (to indicate if the cctv is actually a reasonable requirement).
Read the OP...the first paragraph says the home made box is far away...no mention of it being too far away for CCTV at all.
    The irony....

I have read the OP. The entire OP, not just the first paragraph. Such as the 2nd and 4th paragraphs

New subject, new paragraph I was taught. Where does it say too far away for CCTV? It doesn't. Ring system perhaps as a solution?

2nd half of paragraph 4, they say they don't want to move the box back because they can't mount cctv there.

Not because of the walk, as you proposed.

"They want me to put a box back at the end of the road, but I'm not happy with the security of this, as I can't sensible mount a CCTV camera there, or leave it with a neighbour, which I'm not happy with, either."

I probably can't mount CCTV over my letterbox, but I wouldn't care anyway.

Why is it such an issue for the OP?

(And incidentally, you can absolutely mount cameras that are wireless and feed into a cloud service if that's what you really want so it's a pretty weak excuse that they can't, probably because they'd rather make it RM's issue than theirs.)

    Why are you asking me?

As I said in my first reply about the matter, the OP was already asked by someone else if the elderly relative ever had issues with theft, to indicate whether the cctv requirement is a reasonable one.

But I'd point out wireless cameras are limited to the range of your WiFi. I've never known anyone's home WiFi to extend to a 5 min walk from their house...have you?

Possibly going slightly off-topic or maybe not if CCTV really is a big issue for the OP but I agree that even with perfect uninterrupted line of sight there's little chance that WiFi would work (and you'd need power for the camera at the post box unless prepared to risk the limitations of solar.)
What would work is a single Cat5/6 cable running Power Over Ethernet from the house to the end of the road; I have that setup here with cameras at either end of my 1/2 mile long plot, so both cameras are 400m (i.e. a 5 minute walk) from the house.
