EDF are miscalculating my gas usage by 100 times. Does this affect anyone else?

Massively undercharged. When did you first notice & have you brought it to EDF’s attention before? Seen a lot of overcharging before but not undercharging like this. Very strangealex_s_3 said:Thanks - do you think I'm being undercharged or not?
EDIT noticed there’s no serial number on your bill either, can’t see one on the photo, is there one on the meter?0 -
They've seriously goofed. 11 units on an Imperial meter should equal 341kWh approximately. Keep schtum !

I noticed it yesterday but it has probably been going on for years. The oldest bill I have access to is from 2020 so it's been for at least 3 years.Curiousgirl1 said:

I removed the serial numbers from both the meter and my bill for privacy reasons.1 -
Fair enough re the msn. Do you not read your bills? You must have noticed you were getting charged almost nothing for your gas but using your heating etc?alex_s_3 said:

Thank you for confirming that. Don't know whether it's a good or bad thing that this isn't affecting lots of other people. On the other hand, if this did affect you, you might not want to disclose that in this thread.Gerry1 said:They've seriously goofed. 11 units on an Imperial meter should equal 341kWh approximately. I will probably call EDF to inform them. It's going to be doubly painful with the increased rates coming in April now...0 -
Honestly, no I don't read them. I've been dealing with a water billing issue that has been going on for 2 years now and before that I had an electricity meter mix up that also took years to resolve. For some reason energy bills have never been straight forward for me. The water issue was especially complex and stressful and so I just payed the gas and electricity without looking closely at them because as far as I knew, there was no issue with them. It's only now that the water issue has been sorted and with the energy prices rises that I've bothered to actually look at how much I'm paying. Maybe it seems reckless not to check your bills to those on this forum but don't judge too harshly - we all have our priorities.Curiousgirl1 said:Fair enough re the msn. Do you not read your bills? Why not report your meter as potentially unsafe. EDF should then change it. If they suddenly notice they've been undercharging they may just put it down to an ancient, faulty, meter and suck it up. It's their responsibility to inspect meters on a regular basis.

I will do that, thanks. The corrosion concerns me more than the underbilling (obviously) so thanks for pointing that out. I'm glad I posted that photo and thankful to you folk looking out for this. I didn't even know EDF had a responsibility to inspect meters so I will definitely raise it with them.Verdigris said:Why not report your meter as potentially unsafe. EDF should then change it. > I didn't even know EDF had a responsibility to inspect meters so I will definitely raise it with them.Meters "belong" to whoever is the present supplier. The "" is because, nowadays, many meters are leased, but the responsibilty for their accuracy and safely rests with the incumbent supplier.

It’s not the meter that’s the problem, it’s recording correctly by the looks of it. It’s EDF’s billing system that’s causing the under billing, obviously some sort of glitch that’s not calculating the units to kWh correctly. They’re probably unaware of it as they’re getting regular meter reads so no reason to think there is an issue with the billing until it’s pointed out to them. They have over 5 million accounts, can’t check every bill1
