Does anyone know why when my fixed rate ended on 17 Jan 2022 instead of being put onto the cap rate of £1277 I was added to their Flexi Variant Rate. I never agreed to this and cannot get hold of them to ask why I am not on the cap rate until April. I have emailed and rang them, either their phones are down or their system just returns to your account and not to speak to someone. I have been moved to Eon Next a couple of weeks ago and this is how I found out I was on their Flexi Variant Rate at £1500 instead of the cap rate. I am desperate to get help with this, anyone please. Thank you.

  • The cap applies to the unit prices and standing charges not how much you actually pay. Did you think you could use an unlimited amount of energy?

Are you sure there's really a 'Flexi Variant Rate' tariff?  It doesn't seem to show up on an online search.
As you didn't choose a fixed tariff you should have ended up on their Standard VariableTariff, which is capped.
Sounds you've made the very common mistake of thinking that the annual cost is capped, which is never the case.  It's not All You Can Eat: only the kWh rate and standing charge are capped.  Use more than average and you'll pay more than the average £1277, simple as that.

    Hi

Sounds like you are on the Next Flex tariif which is the eon.next capped rate. These are my rates yours might be slightly different depending where you are.

    Next Flex: Elec

    Fixed term ends 31/03/2022

    20.08 p/kWh 26.82 p/day

    (All rates inc. VAT)

    Next Flex: Gas

    Fixed term ends 31/03/2022

    3.98 p/kWh 26.12 p/day

    (All rates inc. VAT)

Just a heads up you may want to look at their 2 fixed tariffs that are based on the next capped period which starts in April. See here:

Thank you for your replies. Thank you sheffieldeagle for explaining the above. From what I gathered it was the £1277 a year on a capped rate when you finish your fixed rate, unless of course you chose a new fixed rate. I will have a read of the link you have kindly sent me.

The energy cap is a cap on the standing charge and the unit price, not a cap on the total bill.
£1277 is the annual bill for a typical (average) dual-fuel user but your personal bill will be lower if you use less energy than the typuical user, or higher if you use more.
From the sounds of it, if E.ON Next are forecasting your anual billas £1500, you might be using more energy than the average customer does.
