Is my shower broken or am I just being thick?

We just moved into our first home yesterday and I’ve gone to have a shower this morning, pressed the stop/start button and all I get is a burst of water for about a second and then it turns off. I’m hoping it’s not broken. Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it?

Is there a remote on/off switch? Either a cord hanging from the ceiling, or a wall switch outside the bathroom?#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

Do you have the make and model of the shower? Is there an external switch that needs turning on or cord that needs pulling?1

If it's an electric shower, the valve cannot open if power is switched off, so "burst of water for about a second" would be impossible.Hence, the problem has nothing to do with the remote switch. Also, electric showers usually have some sort of indicator for power supply.3

Make and model, please, Oakey. Is there a low pressure indicator on the front panel?1

Thanks guys. It’s a Galaxy g2000lx. There’s no switch anywhere. Seems to have power though because it lights up (he flow/power meter has a red light at the 7 position). Can’t see a low pressure indicator anywhere either.I’m not at home right now but I’ll post a pic/video of the problem later.1

So it's a mixer shower with an in-built pump to boost pressure from a cold loft cistern and hot water cylinder.
Are the hot and cold tanks filled and valved on?

The likeliest fault is that listed on the showerdoc site - apparently they don't like being on '7' or max flow and give that symptom sometimes... turning down to 6 should help - but there's a 'trick' to how to do it.
