Default Notice update query

Options
Hi,

I had a BT broadband contract back in 2015. For 6 months I had virtually no connection & an usable telephone. BT refused to acknowledge the fault, didn't fix anything but expected me to still pay. So when I cancelled the contract they put me in default saying I needed to pay the remaining contract off despite them being unable to provide me with ther service. I refused to pay the £360 & have had no contact with them since 2016.

My clearscore credit report had the default listed at 2016. Then this week I noticed the default has been updated to say 2018, even though I have had no contact with them at all & have ignored all their letters.

I was just wondering how they can update the claim with no contact? I thought that after 6 years they became statute barred & would be removed from my report, but if they keep changing the date it will never be removed. Could someone explain how this works as this is my only default & I would like to get rid of it, but I'm not able or willing to pay the money as they were unable to provide me with the service.

TIA

  • Contact them and ask them to correct the date.

Watch out for notice of court proceedings, so you can decide whether to accept a CCJ or not, as that will mean a further 6 years on your files.
