Tenerife, take euro’s or cards?

Hi it’s been a couple of years since we’ve been away due to obvious reasons. We used to take roughly half the amount we thought we’d need in euros then also spend on my Halifax clarity card.

Whats it like spending out there now, are most shops & restaurants accepting cards over cash?

I went to Gran Canaria last year and almost everywhere was taking contactless payment. I had quite a lot of cash but many places seemed to expect card payment.

I recommend considering a Santander Everyday current account to use the debit card at Santander branded ATMs when you want currency - no fees of any kind on the withdrawal in Spain or the Canaries.

There are no strings attached - no minimum monthly funding into the account needed to qualify for this benefit, and no Direct Debit requirements either.

You'll be able to pay for most stuff by card. Keep or watch the terminal after you tap/enter your PIN as a lot of places try DCC, always choose EUR, the choice is usually presented after you've tapped or entered your PIN.
