First time buyer - where are the bargains?

  • First time buyer here and desperately looking for some decent deals for white goods. Anyone know of the best places to get reliable appliances such as fridges and washing machines?
Open to buying second hand or ex display providing they are in decent condition
Bought an under counter fridge and freezer for £40 and £35 each on FB marketplace last year. One had been sitting in a garage and was mouldy, works fine, one had a dent in it.

Re: Freecycle, don't just join your local group, you can join up to 20 iirc, so do all the surrounding areas too.

Re: Gumtree, yes, it's full of scammers, however, the bloke I bought an upstanding FF from travelled to another county to help me (I was desperate), charged me £90, and HAD STAR RATINGS. Idk how new or utilised this is, but perhaps take a look-see.

Also don't be afraid to ask friends and family if they know of anyone looking to sell: people just leave stuff in garages for ages, you might get freebies. And go old school and pin a notice up on a work notice board, if you have one.
  • Just a heads up, Freecycle / Freegle can be the biggest PITA ever.
I know it's going to sound odd, but you're better off selling stuff on Facebook for £10 if you ever want to get rid of stuff.
Even though it's a small amount of money, the messing around on Freecycle I've had is unbelievable.

From the other side, I'm about to give away a 2 year old fridge-freezer which is in perfect working order (I only have it because a friend gave us an American style side-by-side). I'll be nowhere near you, but it does show that there are people who have stuff they just don't need.

Just to give another view: I’ve given away a few items on Freecycle recently and had no one messing me around. People collecting were just grateful to get some decent quality stuff for nothing.

    OP
Another place to try is British Heart Foundation. They have some white goods which they will have checked for safety.

Used to me my ‘go to’ place for donating unwanted stuff, until I saw how they had damaged some items I’d donated😡.

    Hence turning to Freecycle.
  • Keep an eye on Hot UK Deals.
  • Thanks guys for all the advice!!

I have looked around at FB market place but not yet looked at Freecycle.

Love HotUKDeals,  not see any on there though
