Logging into online bank accounts with different SIM card in iPhone.

I'm travelling to Sri Lanka next week. I'm going to purchase a local Sri Lankan SIM card for my iPhone. Will I still be able to use my banking apps with face recognition with a different SIM card in the phone? Thank you.

    Hi,

Yes that shouldn't be a problem.

Just like you can log in on your phone via a WiFi connection; it doesn't matter what connection you use as long as it's a secure and Internet one.

    Enjoy your trip 🙂

Obviously you won't be able to receive any OTPs sent by text should you need to

The simple remedy for this is to take (or obtain in Sri Lanka) a spare handset, even 2G only, in which to insert your current SIM for receiving text messages. I always use a dual-SIM Android phone but these don't exist with iPhone.

Try to only do your banking on secure WiFi using your normal SIM card.

Of course with 3 you can use your phone as normal without incurring charges

Will be difficult to find a secure wifi unless you are in a private residence. But you can get past this by using a VPN service to secure your browser traffic within a public wifi connection.

Which of course you should be doing on any public wifi, even in the UK.
  • I could just buy a cheap Nokia in Sr Lanka at £11.30 and use a local SIM in that. I just need to make phone calls while in Sri Lanka and be able to accept them in case of emergencies.

Yes they do it’s called an Esim you need an iPhone from the XR upwards and a network provider that offers Esim and your iPhone needs to be unlocked, which most network providers will do either for a fee or after so many months of being in your contract. Or if you have purchased your phone from Apple direct it will be sim free.

I have my main provider EE on the Esim which leaves my normal sim tray available for an international or work SIM card.

Does the eSIM connect to local networks globally while roaming and allow incoming texts..?

Yes andI still receive incoming texts on my U.K. number.

It would be down to who your mobile provider is and if you have international roaming with your current provider.

Roaming is down to your provider - the eSIM just acts as a replacement of the physical SIM card and can allow some handsets with only 1 SIM slot to act as a dual SIM phone.

My provider allows me to receive SMS for free while roaming, but charges for SMS sent and calls made/received. Works perfectly for me to receive the occasional OTP SMS whilst overseas and allows me to still use a local SIM for cheaper local calls.
