Currys care plan

I have a bosh built in oven that we paid £929 for two years ago. Since October I have had the Enginner out to try and fix issues three times. On the last call out the Enginner said that as he has changed three different circuits that he would advise the oven to be written off. I have heard back from the care plan team with a voucher offer of £378. I wasn’t expecting that as the policy states a replacement or the voucher value to be based on an equivalent or similar spec product up to the maximum of the original product purchase price. I don’t understand how they have come back with the low value of £378 as I have checked the curry’s website site and nothing in that price range is the same spec. Has anyone else had this and got it resolved satisfactory.

What did Currys say when you questioned them on the amount?

I believe they are called Currys Don"t Care plans these days.
  • Hi,  I spoke to someone yesterday who took down all the details down and asked what I was expecting value wise and someone would call me back in 48 hours.

What did you say?  Presumably you've identified a suitably-spec'd replacement?
  • I said I would just like the same model again I have specified that in my feedback to the gentleman yesterday. Who noted down the product number of the one model I would like.

You paid £929 for your Bosch two years ago.

Currys' Care and Repair small print says
    'Product Replacement
If we cannot repair your Product you will be given a Currys voucher to obtain a replacement Product in one of our stores. You will have 12 months from the date of issue of the voucher to use the voucher. The value of the voucher will be based on an equivalent or similar specification product up to a maximum of your original Product purchase price. We will also provide you with a Currys voucher to purchase delivery, installation and recycling.
So you should be OK unless the price has increased significantly.
  • But it does contain those slippery two words "... up to ...".

No doubt Currys will also use that to justify a reduction for the two years worth of use the OP has had of the oven - even if the small print doesn't specifically refer to that.

Yes, no shortage of slippery words, '...will be based on...equivalent...similar'

But you do pay extra for this 'care and repair', so to give you no more than your legal rights would seem unfair.

Note that if Currys have dropped the price of that model by £100 to get rid of the last few, that is all you will get. Also it is Currys voucher only, so tough if Currys no longer sell it but AO do.

I think if the OP refused the voucher and pushed for cash refund that the two years worth of use reduction would make an appearance.
  • They are currently selling the same oven for £1099. All i wanted is a direct replacement.
  • Hi all,
just to give an update. I have had a phone call back and they have issued a second voucher to bring the total up to the original Purchased price and added the cost of installing and recycling too.
