Completion is near what things do I need to set up?

Options
Hi all, just after some advice. My completion date is next Friday and I know that I need insurance, and to set up a phone line. Apart from that my mind seems to have gone blank... I think it's because I'm so excited! Any tips?

Thank you kindly :j

Gas & electric suppliers. Remember to take meter readings when leaving the old property & again as soon as moving into the new property. Same if you have a water meter.

Father Christmas needs to be notified too don't forget. :rudolf::rudolf::rudolf:

Good luck in your new home. I hope it won't be too long before I'm in the same position. I've had one aborted sale practically on the verge of completion & lucky enough to have found a new buyer just 2 days later who is having survey done tomorrow. :rudolf:
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Hi Guapa

You should already have building fire insurance in place - from the date of contact or be noted on the seller insurance contract.

    Otherwise you might consider:
    • change of address to friends, employer and anyone else who needs to know.
    • boxes for removals
    • removal contractor arrangements
    • junk to recycling, stuff to charity shops, saleables to e-bay or boot fair
    • set up utilities - telephone, gas etc , TV cable, broadband etc
    • kids' schools
    • doctor and dentist registrations
    • library registration
    • check car can be parked on site or in street - you may need tickets from parking of council
    • once you get setttled you may get a re-banding for council tax - where the seller had improved the property since 1991
    • transfer or fit new house with safety gear
    • you probably did not get a HIP or Energy performance certificate - but check insulation and other energy saving ways
Once you get started on these items - the sooner the better - more will be revealed like magic!

Thank you so much Takoo. That is exactly the type of list I was hoping for. Everything is packed already as I was supposed to move out of this rented accomodation early December.

I am due to complete on my house next week, contracts have already been exchanged. Can I actually go ahead and sort out things like broadband connection (I know there is a BT line installed but do not know the number at the moment) and sat dish installation before completion - I dont mean to be carried out before completion, but set up now to be done after completion?
  • And if needed, a redirection with Royal Mail, can be done online.

Once you've exchanged, then start getting all the things sorted - I've got the satellite dish, BT line, Post Office Redirection etc. all sorted, just need to move in now!
