What happened to Hot Deals UK?

looking at the time frame now I doubt the site will ever revert to what it used to be and your either stuck with what they want or shop elsewhere.
numbers going down and that must mean any money that is made through the site will dip too, talk about how to shoot yourself in the foot..:T ah well a fool and his money etc etcManchester is BLUE dogcop here on a free transfer from the other side0 -
Barney, if I were the cynical sort.... Oh I am... The reason for the reduced functionality is at a guess to cut down on server load, with the old find users posts it returned everything but now it just shows the OP's post in each thread (which is not what you actually want to read). Think how much b/w that saves. There have been comments on there that the site runs smoother now and loads faster, well yes, less users will have that effect LOL.0

The owner of the site has posted a LLLLOOOOONNNNNGGGG reply under discussion as to why the site has changed.
Read it if you like but to put it in a nutshell: It's my site, I'll do what I want, if you don't like it go elsewhereWaddle you do eh?0 -

And unfortunately that's what it's come down to never mind Admin's B/S about it being a community. There have been comments on there that the site runs smoother now and loads faster, well yes, less users will have that effect LOL
LOL I've been saying that for two days now as wellDon't take life too seriously, no one gets out alive0 -
Since I have some support for an alternative no nonsense site to the new mess...
I am right now setting up "ukdealshare". I won't post the direct URL here, in fact it won't be working until later this weekend I presume as the domain needs time to register but I will be hosting from my home server to begin with so no issues with sorting hosting out etc.
I would like some testers just to check stuff works so send me a PM if you're interested. Basically its going to be a no nonsense vBulletin install and then I will modify it as time goes on with deal voting etc. Right now all I'm concerned about is ease of use.
Thanks, hope I can help some people out (I'm not competing with this site, just venting my frustation at the new HUKD in a large way!)
Me too, please.:j0 -

I didn't actually realise that Quidco and HotUKdeals are run by the same person.
I noticed an old thread on here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=6288001 which questions the impartiality of quidco
The fourth post mentions the link.
I haven't found any official confirmation of it though.
A whois search, however, reveals that hotukdeals.co.uk was registered by 'Paul Nikkel' who set up Quidco - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quidco. The wikipedia article also mentions - "Although Nikkel claims to have had no previous commercial experience he was heavily involved in the running of UK deal site HotUKDeals."
Given the link, we can only assume that the changes are very much commercial in nature and there's likely to be increasing pressure to generate revenue rather than actual deals.0 -
Count me in
Oh and just looked at the HUKD and got this!
Fatal error: Too many connections in /home/admin/domains/hotukdeals.com/maple_lib/mysql/mysql_connection.php on line 19

I found it amusing that some of the 'new' companies I posted deals for seemed to find their way onto the quidco list0 -

im not using the site for deals....basically coz i cant find jack!
