Cheque from Shell Energy

I've got a letter and cheque out of the blue from Shell Energy. They say they're the Supplier of Last Resort for Green and are returning a credit balance of around £350.
I was a customer of Green and left in Jan 2021 to Eon. I've been through my bank statements from the time and I received my credit balance back from Green in Feb 2021 - the amount on my bank statement matches the value on my cheque.
The letter is very clear that they don't want to discuss the credit, how it was calculated etc. Trying to decide if I should just think myself lucky and cash it or what I could do. It's not really in my nature to take money that doesn't belong to me.

I suggest you do the same, just be aware you "owe" Shell £350 and don't leave yourself short should they come calling

Ok thanks - if it's happening to lots of people, probably more likely they're going to want it back I guess! I think I'll bank it and save it up for now
Can certainly see why some of these suppliers are going under with such poor record keeping0 -
After giving it due consideration ,I banked my cheque. I thought that there was every possibility that if I destroyed or sent back the cheque , Shell would come after the money anyway in a few months time and insist I'd had it !!
NOTE - The money isn't really Shell's as they probably will claim the repayments under the SOLR process.2 -

Good idea, at least you know where the money is now, you can be more or less certain had you returned the cheque it would be lost by Shell in the post
