Shell Energy refunded credit

Received a letter yesterday enclosing a cheque from Shell as SOLR for Green Energy. Couldn't work out why but Shell make it abundantly clear that they know nothing !!
I was actually a customer of Green but left in early Feb 2021 - digging back thru my bank statements, I received one payment covering my credit at leaving date and a couple of days later a second payment covering the last DD that Green took just before leaving , both payments ~ 3 weeks after leaving them.
The sum of these two payments equals the cheque received from Shell !
My query is do I return the cheque to Shell, or just tear it up ? Or bank it ??
Presumably the amount has already been "claimed" by Shell from the general compo funds so if I don't present it Shell's "profits" are just inflated.

Same here, cheque this morning £6.20, for credit ex Green, already paid by Green last Feb 2021.
With the Shell disclaimer of nothing to do with them I'm just going to bank it and do no more than that given the sum involved
    Numerus non sum
  • Same here. I contacted Shell and told them of the error. I'm not cashing the cheque as I believe it may be theft.

    No it’s not.
theft is the intention to permanently deprive.
Worst case they’ll ask for it back.
I have in the past paid things bad simply because I didn’t want them on my conscience for 6 years.
