EDF wronguns

So today logged into my account only to find EDF has already applied the April price cap. Looking forward to making a formal complaint regards breaching October 2021 price cap 🤣. Btw still waiting for my £119 credit from zog

Have they actually billed you at the new rates, or are you just seeing the new rates on the tariff?
They say they have updated the tariff so people know what is coming and can compare more easily, but they have not actually billed anyone with the new rates yet...
  • Fair point but I won't hold breath.

Just make sure you enter a reading by the end of March so they don't have to estimate it! Even if you have a smart meter you should check the reading in case the meter isn't communicating for some reason.
  • Worried about this too.

My EDF standard variable tariff currently shows:

Electricity unit rate: 27.86p per kWh
Daily standing charge: 48.13p per day

Gas unit rate: 7.367p per kWh
Daily standing charge: 27.22p per day

Can that be right, and does that intimate the above will still be going up drastically come April?

My last bill goes up to Feb 2 and shows a lower rate. I'm not sure if I'm still on the previous standard variable, or if the current tariff is already being applied.

That is the rate from April 1st. EDF have made a hash of their IT system and it's showing you the new rates already.

Thank you for the confirmation. The rates are shocking enough as is, when I saw EDF's warning that 'the price cap will rise by almost £60 a month for a typical customer from 1 April,' I assumed the above was set to go up again.

As an aside, EDF has also just emailed me a fix offer lasting until February 2024:

Electricity unit rate: 30.55p per kWh
Daily standing charge: 48.13p per day

Gas unit rate: 8.474p per kWh
Daily standing charge: 27.22p per day

Seems poor value right now, particularly when taking into account the £200(!) exit fee, but with everything going on in the world I wonder if I'll look back thinking "should have gone for it."

Like many, my previous fix came to an end at the worst possible time.

EDF's current fixed rates seem poor value to me - the 12-month version has gas priced over 10p/kWh.
We know the capped variable rates until October; next winter, of course, is still an unknown.

The exit fees made the decision for me. I'm not locking in such a high tariff and pay high fees to get out of it.

Yep, I've suffered with bad timing too. It all started with Green Network Energy collapsing.
  • You do have to wonder if the changing of the rates on the website, but not making clear that those will only be applied from April, has anything to do with the contacting of seemingly lots of folk offering fixes...
