venere wouldn't be my first choice here, as they are an italian company. granted, good for italy, but best use someone far more adept in the dutch market. for amsterdam bookings, you are best off with a dutch company with in-situ local knowledge and an office there, thus offering stronger contracts/rates with the hotels.
therefore, i'd suggest you look at booking.com. they are in AMS and you'll find their availability far superior to venere therefore more choice.
same logic applies regionally. a regional specialist is more likely to return you a better rate than an aggregator who tries to be all things to all men (and usually fails).
for U.S. hotels you are better with priceline or hotels.com. for asian hotels, asiarooms or similar. for aussie hotels, wotif.com. for uk hotels, laterooms.com. for packages, expedia or lastminute.com.
