  • I stayed at the Albus Grand which was a good clean central hotel.
    :o Tasty fish
  • We just had 3 nights in the Hotel Brouwer which was very nice and we would stay again. Lovely rooms, we had the Escher on the top floor which has a great view. Breakfast is a bit pants though and there's no tv in the rooms but it is in a great location and easy walking distance to Central station.

Stayed here a couple of years ago and would happily go back. Just across the road from Central Station too!
I may be shy, but that doesn't make me an angel ;)
  • I have used www.hotels.nl

Good clear site - most hotels you don't pay until you get there - only extras you have to pay is the city tax where this is not always included in the tariff (6% I think)
  • I would recommend Hotel Estherea, it won the Best for Romance award in 2006 Travellers Choice by TripAdvisor.

I'd recommend doing a search on Venere - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
PM me if you want a 4% discount code.

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

    Hope that helps

PS - I'm not connected to this website in any way, and I don't gain anything from this post. I also found the discount code on another forum.
  • I stayed here last January: http://www.aalborg.nl/

Good value, good location, useful not too pricy bar, and anywhere that produces iced doughnuts at breakfast time gets my vote :-) There was also toast, cheese, cold meats, yoghurt, cereal, and other bits and pieces if doughnuts that early in the morning is a bit much....

Hotel Rho is in the centre of town, and was clean + comfortable, and not noisy..

  • I stayed in the Botel, it's really convenient for the town, It's moved from it's original moorings but the location it's in now is really nice. http://www.amstelbotel.nl/?doc_uid=857cdb9a78e6853d7a340e91df67d59e&language=uk&
If I remember rightly you can get a room with view of the canal for an extra supplement but it's worthwhile. It was clean and comfortable without being very expensive. A double room with canal view is 94 euros or £67.27 per night or 89 euros/£63.69 per night for none canal view rooms. I know you can also stay in places, peoples houses with breakfast thrown in, my sister did this and said it was alright. Hope you have a lovely time whatever you decide.

  • ive been amsterdamn loads of times, and there are so many decent hotels i dont see the point in booking from here.

if you turn up at the door you can haggle all of them down, last year i paid 30-35 euro's a night and the hotel was great, clean etc and in dam square.

be careful about going in may, as may 1st is the queens birthday and is a national holiday and basically a 48 hour street party!! you would deff need to book your hotel before you arrive if going around the end of april-early may.

Personally i would go for the queens birthday it is the best time/party ive ever had and was just crazy. To wake up early and see a city full of orange, drums and heineken was amazing!! lol
