@Greying_Pilgrim I know exactly what you mean about the top up shops, where they'd normally be £5-£10 for me they're now around the £15 if not more but I never seem to have much to show for it.
Had to go to Lidl yesterday instead of today in the end due to schedules. Spent £24.83 which should see us through to Sunday now, and hoping even then it'll just be milk, juice etc I'll need. Meal planned for a week and have most of it all in (which day we have them on may change though)
Today - Veggie stir fry for us, stuffed pasta for the boys from Olio
Friday - Spanish Pork with butter beans and chorizo
Saturday - Pizza
Sunday - Roast Pork dinner
Monday - Chorizo & Mozzarella Gnocchi Bake with salad
Tuesday - Veggie stir fry for us, boys will have stuffed pasta (Olio again)
Wednesday - Sausage & Mash with yorkshires and veg
Thursday - Lasagne with salad
Total Spends £248.25/£460

Looks like I'm going to have to rejig the meal plan. We were supposed to be going away tomorrow evening for the weekend but OH has come down with a fever
LFTs all negative so far, waiting for a PCR test to be delivered. Either way, doesn't look like we'll be going anywhere.
I have leftover wellington in the fridge so I might do that this evening with homemade chips. Then we can have sausage casserole another evening. The freezer is very full, so we should be able to rustle up a few extra dinners.6 -
@Greying_Pilgrim - I live a long way from the nearest towns! MrT and Ald1 in the nearest town 8 miles away; Morries, Icel*nd, Lid1, MrA and MrS in the opposite direction 15 miles away. There are some things I like from particular shops so I just have to decide which direction I'm going before I get to the roundabout where I have to go Left or Right! So it costs in terms of fuel whichever direction I go.5

Well, the day is ending well 😊
I made raspberry & lemon cake with some of the raspberries out of the box. I also made a carrot cake with some of the carrots. Most of the slices will be frozen, but it was chance to make something a little different - haven't made the carrot cake for yonks - and it was nice to think about the lady who gave me the recipe, who may no longer be with us on earth, but her recipe (in ounces......) lives on.
LG surprised (and delighted me), by eating some spring greens. They have not had them before (been eons since I've eaten any!), and ate up what was put on their plate 😊 They also really wanted to help put the raspberries on the cake batter (the cake rose nicely, so the raspberries still 'sunk', but it'll taste nice, even if it's looks won't grace the cover of a food mag). There are some raspberries left, so I'm hopeful that a dig in the cupboard will yield some raspberry jelly that can be made up tomorrow to enjoy some fresh raspberries with. Thank heavens for store cupboards..........

Those cakes look yummy @Greying_Pilgrim! It's inspired to get baking today. I've got some squishy bananas that need using so I'll do some banana cake.
Another spend too declare from yesterday of £7.83 as I've got a friend coming round for tea tonight and needed a few bits for the chilli vodka spaghetti I'm making (a recipe from a student cookbook that I haven't made in years but which is delicious if I remember rightly). I forgot to buy salad leaves so looks like I'll be serving it with a side salad of garlic bread as I do have that in. Also included in the shop were some bits to donate to a collection of toiletries for refugees and the only unnecessary thing was 2 packs of spaghetti instead of 1. I saw they had normal own brand at 70p and the bargain own brand at 20p so I bought 1 of each to do a taste test and see if there's really any difference.
Total up to £108.04/£200

Well, I'm up to £401.62/£450, making it fairly unlikely I'll stick to my aim for this month. £26.15 at the supermarket, £26.74 at the butchers, a round £10 at the baker's and £56 at the market this morning on cheese, fish, fresh veg & fruit. I do have a bit of lee-way in that DD1's boyfriend is now insisting on contributing to the budget, bless his cotton socks, so I feel a bit more comfortable about allowing £500 for the 6 of us in the coming months. £450 would be perfectly do-able (at present) if I didn't have so many different diets to cater for! But I do...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)4
