Hi everyone,
We had a wild drive back from Laura's last night, the visibility was virtually zero in parts. We're waiting till this afternoon to drive to Yorkshire when the wind is supposed to die down but the forecast for the next few days doesn't look the best.
I had a tear in my eye along with Keith during Pottery Throwdown last night, what a great episode!
I hope all the poorly people and their carers have a good week. Stay safe everyone.14 -
Morning all,
Hope everyone is doing ok, and that anyone who is struggling will accept a 'virtual hug'. I am not feeling too hot this morning, but my plan was to paint a bit of a ceiling, so I suppose I should - wish me luck! Weather doesn't sound great out there, hopefully it will clear so I can get a walk later (in my new boots ha ha). Other plans include laundry (it's never ending) and making mince and tatties for tea. Have a great day all.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Morning folks. A late one off me, We seemed to be in the eye of the storm up here last night. I was woken at 4.00 with crashing and banging above me but of course too dark to see what was happening. Come daylight it looks to be the chimney coming to grief. I thought the whole roof was caving in. Next door but one has loads of ridge tiles and slates off - fallen on his garage roof and damaged that too! Lady across problems with flat dormer roof and rain flooding in her bedroom. Aaargh! Ex SIL (a roofer) is hoping to call up at some point to assess my damage.
Hairdresser due at lunchtime just texted to say coming in half an hour, I'd cancel her but it's in dire need of cutting. This is not a good day. Speak to you later!

Take care all and be safe xxOh, that's awful TA - I hope that your SIL can repair your damage and you haven't got water coming through. I hope that your day turns out better.Orkney - take things easy, especially as you're not feeling too grand.Florence - you go girl, can't be hanging around for someone so reluctant. You work hard and do so much for others, it's good to do some self-care.My service engineer has been and gone. He'd driven from Peebles this morning, leaving home at 4.30a.m. - bless him. I've promised him that next time I book a service, in five years time, it'll be in late spring or early summer. His drive was rather wild and hairy. Now I'm waiting for the cleaner to arrive and have lit the stove, I don't like her coming into a cold house but I'll let it die down after she's gone.Snoozer - I'm with you, what a wonderful episode all round though I too had a wee cry at the beautiful and poignant sculptures made, the winning one was spectacular.15 -
Morning all. Another wild night with gusting winds, yet more rain and hailstones. Today is still breezy but seems quieter and I can even see some strips of blue sky! I need to go out later so I hope it stays like this. We'll see.
A few little jobs to do today. First up is to check the bus times for tomorrow for when I go to my retinal screening appointment. It's in the city centre, somewhere I haven't been for over two years, but I know there have been quite a few alterations to the roads to make it more pedestrianised so it's more than possible the bus I think I need will have changed its route. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it hasn't - I won't be able to see very well when I come out because of the eye drops they use.
Second up is to ring the pharmacy to check they have new repeat scripts for us. I'll do that this afternoon when the phone queue has got a bit shorter. If they have then I can pick up the next batch of meds later in the week; if not it gives them time to order new ones. We're OK for the moment apart from the ones DH needs to take daily for his gout.
When I've finished on here I'll nip outside to take the meter readings and send them in. Not looking forward to the bill as I know we've had the heating on more than usual this last month.
I'll be going to the PO later today so I'll see what damage the storms have done; I'm sorry to hear so many of you have had problems with fences etc and hope you can get repairs done sooner rather than later. TA - your chimney sounds scary, I hope it stays attached.
Yesterday's gammon dinner was much enjoyed and the resulting pea & ham soup is currently simmering on the hob. That's used up the last of the split peas, so they're another addition to the next shopping list that - so far - isn't too long. Today we'll be having the pork casserole I unearthed from the freezer yesterday with mash and sprouts. I may need to add some dumplings too to bulk it out a bit.
Izzy - I'm with you in that every day feels like Groundhog Day at the moment. I'm really looking forward to better weather (soon, please), as I think we all are.
Right, enough waffle, must get on. Take care everyone, stay safe and well. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.12 -
Morning all. Well that was a wild weekend, and still is now I suppose. Locally, walls down, sidings and roofs blown off, trees down, sides of buildings fallen off onto cars [ thankfully empty] so we personally got off very lightly indeed which I am very grateful for. I really feel for those who didn't. Haven't any plans for today, except the usual, and two loads of washing. The magic cupboard has just finished and I have a few saucepans there too from yesterday but they can wait until I put the water on to heat.I was looking through some old photos yesterday and my god , our living room was a big old cluttered mess. I can't believe how radically it changed, and that's down to Nelski and others who started the Dana White thread. I mean, it's not great now, but looking at what it was, it's not the disaster it used to be. And isn't February flying? It's nearly March already...No idea what food tonight will be , we finished the pie off yesterday, I'll have a think. Maybe some quick stew or chunky soup. And if I hadn't kept being distracted, Id have pressed send an hour or more ago...TA, hope they can fix your chimney asap. Izzy, yes, do it because you'll only get more frustrated if you don't. Jackie, I bet that wasn't pleasant for your SIL, maybe he should go get checked out for fractures.. Look after yourselves today, more especially than normal and if you go out, be careful!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi11

I spoke too soon. I went out the back to have a look and discovered the greenhouse has been blown across it;s base and is now hanging over two sides and some of the glass has smashed. Better get out there and sort it out....Poo.

Afternoon all,Sorry to hear of damage to property, it's still windy here but finally stopped raining a bit since. We've had flood & yellow wind warnings from yesterday. It snowed hard on Saturday around lunchtime. Ds2, grandkids and us were going to the town team football match, and it looked a bit dodgy as to whether it would still be on, but lots of hands on deck to clear the pitch soon sorted.Luckily we set off early to pick DS2 up as it was bumper to bumper all the way, but not as much snow on DS side of town. The children were writing their names in the snow outside the ground, DGS was most put out to find his had been obliterated after, but not DGD
It had all disappeared by Sunday morning.
I got up last night as I heard a big bang but couldn't see any damage.Just had a T delivery- didn't have 1 last week & needed a few things, I felt sorry for the driver fetching it in the driving rain. I gave the fridge a good sort out & made some cauli soup.I was going to have it for my lunch but DH came home and put some mushroom soup on & I forgot about the one I made until it was too late! We'll probably have chicken and chips tonight, Ds1 can finish off the curry from Sat.We had a nice visit from DB and SIL yesterday, bringing a card and bottle of wine for DH birthday this week, so the house is still visitor tidyStay safe everyone, I'm going to have a catch up on here now x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Greetings again folks - I feel a bit calmer than when I posted like somebody slightly deranged earlier!
Ex SIL has been and assessed and the damage isn't quite as bad as I feared. He says as far as he can see from the ground the roof, and next door's, look OK. It's the shared chimney stack which is the problem and the crashing and banging was all the rendering and loose bricks hitting the roof and tumbling down into the guttering. I really thought the whole roof was caving in it was so loud! Anyway he is hoping to get here this weekend (weather permitting of course) to sort it. I told him no mate's rates but he said I had done enough for him and the girls before him and DD split so he would only charge for materials and the wage of the lad who works with him. I insisted I would pay his going rate but he was having none of it. I will make sure he takes something! And as the cost will be shared with next door as well it's only fair!
And more expense! Sparkle's allergy is on the move again. This must be a record as it's 10 weeks since her last injection. We've never gone so long between jabs before. So she has an appointment Wednesday morning. It's not at our usual branch as they are fully booked all week. So whoever the different vet is will doubtless face her wrath, with much hissing and spitting. She does show me up!!
Take care one and all and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"10
