My experience with Stonearce weren't good, thankfully I didn't actually buy a car from them. That's just my local branch though, others could differ.
Basically I wouldn't touch anything from  them, wouldn't trust them, that's me. They tell lies, don't know their cars and the communication is poor.
Regards warranty, never have taken it on any car bar one secondhand car, that was waste of time. The air conditioning packed in, sorry sir it's wear and tear, new condenser required, not covered.
Thankfully I've been ok with cars regarding any serious mechanical stuff mostly reliable.

I would be very wary with the cambelt. Salesmen will say ANYTHING to get a sale. The service manager might tell him to get lost and you may think it has been done but it hasn't.

I think that's what's bothering me about going ahead and having it done at the dealership. It was agreed to quite quickly and for something as important as the cam belt I want complete peace of mind. I'll speak to the salesman tomorrow, ask that they do the MOT as per the sales deal but forget the cam belt then start the process of cancelling the warranty. Thanks for all your advice and help folks  :)
  • I have had the Volkswagen/SEAT/Audi Used Approved Warranty (free from the main dealers) on a few vehicles now. A few minor issues were sorted no problem on the warranty. Even issues that were not caused by the vehicle (Wife though her USB charging port was faulty - it was the cable!) they didn’t charge for when they investigated them!

My brother has a Marshalls warranty on a Golf (free with the car) and reading the terms and conditions its would be a pain to do any claim - it has to go back to the original dealership that you brought it from, if impossible it has to go to your nearest Marshalls even though our closest one refused to look at it as they were not a VW garage!

This seems very strange, so you would foot the bill for the cambelt? But you let them do the MOT? Just get them to do everything?

Down the road engine develops a fault. Stoneacres say nothing to do with us people who changed the Cambelt did it wrong or did not tighten something up
  • I know what you mean. I’m very skeptical about car servicing from the supplying dealer unless main dealer as margins are very tight and they will cut corners.

As far as cam belts go, I buy cars that have lifetime chains. As long as you service regularly they last forever.  Same with turbo chargers and diesels dpfs, you’re just asking for extra running costs just to save a few Pennie’s at the pump. It’s a false economy (unless your doing 30k a year).
Stick to normally aspirated petrol engine, manual box with no cambelt. Get it serviced every 10,000 miles (change oil and filter every 5000 miles if doing lots of short cold running journeys) and the car will last for as long as you want it to.
Sorry to go off topic slightly!
