Virgin Media Fibre speeds

I have VM 1gig fibre which I connect to wirelessly which comes with a 550mb guarantee for the wired connection.  I need to use a VPN for work purposes. I accept that the VPN reduces speed by 10 - 20% which brings it down to about 440 - 456mb, I also accept that being wireless it will reduce the speed a bit more. However I wouldn’t have thought those two factors would reduce the speed down to between 75 - 90mb which I am currently getting during gathering day whilst working. When not logged into the VPN the speed bounces back up to 440 - 456mb.  Is anyone else experiencing these issues with their connection and can shed any light on why this might be happening? I know VM don’t like VPNs as they can’t track your usage but I wouldn’t have thought they would have throttled your speed by this much because your signed into a VPN.

Are you sure its not a limitation of the bandwidth available at the VPN ingress/egress? Or per user bandwidth control applied at the VPN?

That’s true I hadn’t thought of that but wouldn’t know how to check that as the VPN is provided and controlled by my employer. I had also read somewhere that the speed you receive whilst logged in is limited to the speed that your employers internet servers receive. Also I have read that if there is a huge difference between the speed when logged into the VPN and when not then it is a sure sign your provider is throttling although VM would deny this.

when I first started working from home VM blocked the VPM my employer uses and they had to get on to VM to sort it,
