I contacted Richard re the use of his D name. He told me he was never called Richard except by his Mum everyone, including the TV people and the Army top brass use the D word and he was astounded that some jobsworth had blanked his name out.12

I've popped back, amazingly it's a nice morning now, sunshine, not windy, and the snow is disappearing! Izzy, I knew you would be up to your necks in snow, be careful.
We are in North Durham, not that far from the coast, it's much worse over in West Durham. It's cold here though, 6°, and now pouring with rain, though still sunny. Strange.
Csarina, don't go away again!
Take care everyone, whatever you are doing today.12 -
Morningall. Tea yesterday was Toad in the Hole, OH ate part ofmine, i was just so full! and brought some home too. I have to make some suet pastry for the pie filling, which kind of morphed into steak and mushroom because i put some dried porcini in there too. There were oranges at the community fridge so they were boiled with the tangerines last night and I'll slice up the rind this morning and make the marmalade this afternoon. Also got some fresh thyme [ love that stuff], a loaf of my favourite bread, sainsburys seeded ttd loaf (!) so that was sliced and stuck in the freezer, 12 eggs, hello quiche, some burrata, again, hello quiche and some lettuce. I've got leftover pork in the fridge I can put in the quiche too.Wind is doing it's thing, I moved the bins last night to shelter and we took up the sides of the goth box so it wouldn't impede the winds path and blow the roof off like it was threatening to do the day before yesterday. The sky is blue at the moment and there's a bit of sun, god knows how long that will last though. We are sandwiched in between the red warnings so hopefully won't be too bad...Csarina, that's really funny..Izzy, stay in and keep warm! Ruby, that's quite irrepsonsible of them. All our local schools are shut today because of the warnings, so you know, if it's good enough to keep schoolkids at home...[all ages of schools btw not just the littlies] Scarlet, what's your world beating new method?
TA, all the loose rubbish seems to end up in my front garden too, it's very annoying. Gers, hope your snow stays gentle and light. Take care all today, espeically anyone in the path of the wind, don't take chances, stay in safe!

Hi everyone,
Csarina, when my youngest brother was born mum wanted to call him Richard but dad objected because he thought people would call him D!ck. Mum said that people wouldn't if we didn't and he didn't respond to it (she was a Margaret who never answered to anything else) she was right, I call him Rich but never the other thing. I remember being in an open public office when a colleague called across "you know that d!ck on the course" cue much shushing ad disapproving looks until she said "that's his name".
L & B postponed their trip to Wales until next Tuesday but are now under a red warning themselves. It's L's birthday next week and we were going to babysit next Saturday while they went out but now it's been moved to tomorrow, we may well stay and go out for lunch with them on Sunday.
I finished transferring my cookery books to the shelf in the dining room. I have culled them by at least half, sending some to Ziffit and will take the rest to the CS, all my Nigella's and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's among them. It's funny how tastes change, now I've got a shelf of Indian, Italian and vegetarian books.
Stay safe everyone.12 -
Morning all, we're wind watching ! We in a red zone so I don't know what will happen today but all schools are closed with everyone working from home. All busses and trains have stopped and the message is to stay at home if you can, seems most of our neighbours have complied as the cars are all parked up. We have battened down every hatch and Mr Fix It is on perimeter duty while I'm watching our trees at the back of the house and hoping they don't get uprooted, although if they come down they still won't hit the house, may get the shed though. Our phones are charged and I did my Kindle last night, I told Dad to charge his phone too for Justin Case, hopefully he won't do anything daft and go out shopping. I think it will be a quiet day indoors with some pottering while keeping an eye on this wind. We are hoping for a Chinese take away for tea but that will depend on if they're open/delivering and if they have power, they're only about a mile away. If not it will be something for tea from the store cupboards, I have a gas cooker so I can still cook something, even beans on toast will be ok, bit of a let down but never mind, needs must. The BBC keep showing Porthcawl, it's not far from us and I've seen it much, much worse. It's always windy at normal times with the sand whipping up while you're trying to eat your picnic on the beach. Gritty sandwiches anyone ?
Gers daffs are my DD's favourites.
Florence lovely cream tea pics, I was very jealous
Mehefin I hope you, Mrs M and the animals stay safe today.
Take care everyone stay safe whatever the weather, especially if you have to go out.

Morning from the red zone
Well Eunice has sort of arrived. well the vanguard at least. Wind has been getting progressively stronger through the morning, and its now raining horizontally!
Mares went out early this morning for a quick run around but are now back in stables. happily munching.
Just waiting for the inevitable power cut/tree down etc. And no doubt there are stupid people who have gone down to watch the waves bashing the local harbour fronts.
Take care all and stay in if you can( don't have that luxury)

Hi Nan. Yes I was thinking of Porthcawl. We are only a mile from the sea with nothing to stop the wind in between, so its going to get a bit fresh!14 -
