Texts not being received - any ideas??

For the past couple of months, on random days, I've not been receiving texts to my phone. A contact may send me several sms messages, but I won't receive any of them until around 7pm, or later, when they will all come through together. The first message may have been sent around 7am. Nothing has changed re my phone, it's a Samsung Galaxy S7 that I've had for a couple of years and as far as I can remember, this is a recent problem. It's nothing to do with my location, as far as I am aware, as I may be in several different locations throughout the day and they still don't come through until the evening. This is driving me slightly mad and has caused a couple of misunderstandings!

Does anyone have any idea why texts might be delayed like this?

Almost always network congestion/signal issues.  Check with phone provider website for "service status" in your area.
If network congestion very little you can do.

Texts are never immediate, never guaranteed, and are generally treated as lower-priority traffic than voice on the network.

You could try downloading and using the Google messages app and see if that improves the situation

Thanks - we resort to whatsapp when it becomes clear that they are not getting through. Never a problem with that, although obviously it needs wifi to work.

There was a thread recently covering text issues as there were changes to how they work.

Can't find it it might have been on the phones board.

I think something to do with RCS  and needing data, the messages come through once on wifi.

needed some changes on the phones to get it working

I recently stopped getting texts from one person, luckily I remembered those threads and sure enough, their phone had turned on Chat without them doing anything.

Tap messages, three dots, settings, chat settings, chat features needs to be off for all users.

Also Whats App doesn't just need WiFi, it works with mobile data turned on too.

No, am always connected to wifi, either at home or have mobile data on when out and about. Many of the texts I don't receive are sent early in the morning before I leave home so am connected to home wifi for hours after they've been sent. They all just seem to pile in in the evening. Will have been connnected to wifi all day.

Thank you, had a look at that, but there is no 'chat' under settings so unsure what to do about that.

Ah okay, my Samsung Galaxy is newer than yours, does this work instead:

I believe Advanced Messaging is essentially Chat under another name.
