Afternoon all, late one today from me. Well, that was a wild and stormy night and I get the feeling Dudley is reluctant to leave. Today is still windy, although not as bad, and we seem to be alternating between dry with a little bit of sun and rain/hail/sleet. I slept well (heavy sleeper) so apologies to those who were kept awake by the howling wind or just struggle with sleep generally. We're under an amber weather warning for Eunice and could have some snow too "over the hills" according to our Yorkshire weather forecaster. Now, Yorkshire's a big county and has plenty of hills, but from experience I know that translates to TA-land - I'll be thinking of you and hope you don't get too much of the white stuff. We're on the outskirts of Leeds, three miles or so from the North Yorkshire border, so we could get some too. Bah.
I managed to pick a dry spell this morning for a quick outing to the Co-op for next week's TV guide and a couple of bits I couldn't get on my Sains order so that will be me hunkered down till next week. As long as the electric doesn't go off I'll be happy to be inside.
Dinner tonight is corned beef hash with potatoes and cabbage, plus the last two mini Yorkies from the freezer. I doubt we'll need any afters!
There's not much I fancy on TV tonight so I might make a start on one of the cross stitch kits I got last week. I was thinking I could do with getting a task light for when I do this but I was quite shocked at how much they cost. So, thinking cap on and I've switched the table lamp I normally use for one from the spare bedroom and it works a treat, so many pennies saved there.Coxy - good luck with the job application. Considering there are so many vacancies it doesn’t seem to make it any easier to find a job, does it?
Nels - can’t beat the good old WD40!
Gers - Your sofa fiasco must be making your brain hurt! It will be worth the wait though when you (eventually) get what you want. Fab view from your window btw.
TA - hope the tablets kick in soon. We can't have you wandering around looking like a drunk!
Gers’ mention of the Heath days of power cuts brought back memories of when we first set up home together in an all electric one bedroom flat on the 15th floor of a city centre tower block. As well as the usual problems of no heating, cooking facilities, lighting or hot water, we also had to contend with no lift. Was it our turn for a cut? And what time was our turn? And how long for? A choice of risking the lift and getting stuck in it or a trek up 15 flights of stairs! Needless to say, we never risked the lift. Still, we were young and healthy plus we were both out working during the day and went out most evenings so it was really just a base to sleep in and park belongings. It was an easy walk to work, near shops, cafes, bars, theatres etc and the view over the city centre was amazing, especially at night when all the lights were twinkling. Happy memories of a more carefree life, but I'm glad we don't live there now.
Condolences to those who are remembering loved ones right now and wishes for success are winging their way to those trying to source the meds they need. Take care everyone, stay safe and well. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Gers - what a lovely view.
Not too bad here today - dry and some sunshine.
Had a gift of afternoon tea for two at a vintage tea room. We only ate about half of the food but they tell you what is left will be boxed up to take away - I won't be cooking dinner tonight. The clotted cream was yummy. I had a pot of breakfast tea and Mr F had a pot of Buckingham Palace tea. Waitress said - strain the tea as it is leaves - expect most people use bags but we still use loose tea anyway It was Rose Petal jam.
