Do I charge her rent? She gets rent from her property, plus a good job and maintenance for the child.DD06 said:My partner is coming to live with me, and her child. She will be renting her property out too.

I have no mortgage and only work part time at the moment.0 -
Are you asking if others charge their partners rent, or if people think that you should?
To answer your question as per the title, no, I don't.1 -
It's up to you. We all don't know any circumstances.DD06 said:My partner is coming to live with me, and her child. She will be renting her property out too.

Some people would, some wouldn't.
Have you spoken to your partner? Make a mutual decision and go with that.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....1 -
Fairest thing would be partner with rent income splits it with owner where they are living. Who could complain of unfairness?DD06 said:My partner is coming to live with me, and her child. She will be renting her property out too.

Any plans for marriage? Who's child?2 -
Truly complicated. Why not ask her what she thinks? Obviously she will need to contribute quite a bit more towards household bills, she is also getting rent? Complicated as money is always a difficult subject.Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £238k, target £122k (quarter way!)

Comes up a lot plenty of threads to cover the options.
A key one is how to avoid them gaining an equitable interest in the property.

Maybe this is just me being old fashioned, but putting in efforts to avoid your partner gaining a share in the property that you both live in together with a child seems like quite a poor way to behave.getmore4less said:Comes up a lot plenty of threads to cover the options.

”Sorry kid, I know you’ve come to think of me as a father, but I’ve made damned sure that you and your mother never really got a stake in this place you’ve felt was your home.”3 -
Move in with her, rent your place out, then you can decided whether to pay her any rent ?Or just think it through that way.1

I dont charge them rent and instead give them monies but thats what works for us, where we see our relationship and the difference in earnings.
Really one to be discussing and agreeing before agreeing to move in together whatever the decision is.2
