New property - which energy supplier to use?

Hi all, Ive just bought a new property and the supplier is Eon. Ive searched online including MSE for advice on the best energy supplier. However all advice indicates staying with current supplier. Price is the most important factor for me, not a big name, and i know Eon isnt the cheapest out there. But who do I switch to in this uncertain time? Any guidance appreciated as its my first home, thanks in advance

As you have said the advice is to stick with Eon on their Standard Variable Tariff.
There are no options at this time.
Keep reading those meters at least monthly and give the readings to EonNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
You'll be on a deemed tariff. This will be set at the level of the Ofgem price cap. There's nothing cheaper out there at the moment.
Just don't let them talk you into a fix. Provide them your details and meter readings when you move in. The cap goes up in April. Keep an eye on the market from then and see if any providers start offering fixes at or cheaper than the price cap.1 -
How do you know that? All suppliers will be the same price for capped tariff at the moment so there will be no benefit moving and even if you did there is no guarantee you'd be able to get the cap rate.showmethemoneyplz said:i know Eon isnt the cheapest out there.
Only reason to move is if you prefer the online or other facilities a supplier offers but in your case I wouldnt bother changing.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
All suppliers are crazy expensive at the moment.Stay with E.ON on their standard variable tariff - Next Flex - unless you are offered (or can request) Next Online V10 which is slightly cheaper than the April variable-rate cap.See this thread:N. Has others have said stay with Eon on their SVR there is nothing cheaper, plus as a new customer they are highly unlikely to offer you a cheaper rate than what you will be on and under no circumstances fix with them. If they claim you have to take a fixed rate then ask for a letter of deadlock and complain to the ombudsman they will lose or back down and keep you on the SVR.Someone please tell me what money is1

If they try to claim on the phone that you have to go onto a fix then simply say no, then put your details to them in writing, with clear confirmation that you will simply continue on the standard variable tariff. Think about it this way - the property is currently ON the SVT - so by simply giving your details and refusing a fix, the only change is that they will have your details to bill you. Once you are set up with them then you should be able to set up a DD, as obviously you won't want to send those details through the post ideally.
