For the dryer we went Grundig(Beko inside with 5y warranty) been happy with it for over 12/2015 6y now.
    GTN 38250 HGCW
(just checked they are now 2y warranty so would target the equivalent Beko model)

The washer was the 4/2014 a Bosch and no problems with that
    WAQ28461GB

Did a lot of research and it came down to what was the decent price off the short list at the time.

prices YO-YO,  there are offers all the time,  Also check for any manufacturer cashbacks they can swing a deal to a different model.
That Grundig would swing £420-£600 and only available from currys which will count it out for some people

ALSO note that your nominal load is for the full cotton wash, most of the washes you will use are much smaller.

If looking for rapid wash/dry  an 8kg machine that could be 2kg load.

There are different types of HP dryer so you need to check the specs carefully

ALSO check the condencer efficiency you are looking for high 80% 90%+

There were also a series of tech updates to the insides the energy performance tended to fit into bands.
that Grundig was in the annual 230kwh range at that time there was a band around 260kwh.
Newer models will by under 200kwh some as low as ~175kwh

What I do now for white goods is look at the Beko range and benchmark the rest against them for value, features, performance etc.
    https://www.beko.co.uk/appliances/laundry/tumble-dryers

then watch prices and look up history on the like of pricespy to asses the low price points then wait.

For need yesterday you can't go far wrong with AO.com

We bought these from AO a couple of weeks ago,  very happy so far.  Not the cheapest, but if they last 16 years like the last set did then worth it
(Mum used to have a Beko - it was cheap and rubbish -  had to replace after 3 years and 4 repairs.  I believe the 'buy cheap = buy twice' adage)

I ordered over the phone,  and blagged a £75 discount so in effect I paid only £5 for installation & recycling.

I also think these will save us some electricity,  I'm assuming they're more energy efficient than our old ones.

    Hope this helps

  • Bosch are not the company they used to be. They are the same as the cheap brands now.

Well they look and feel OK so far.  Who knows ...   I still wouldn't buy a Beko tho'

Bosch now cover both the budget and mid price areas of the market. Miele are probably the only manufacturer who make w/m's with replaceable drum bearings, most others will be scrap after 500 or a thousand cycles.
I'd be wary of HiSense, because they do not have an adequate service network in place.
Bosch are generally OK if you avoid the sub-£400 end of the range. You get what you pay for.

No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

We bought a Beko five years ago new from John Lewis for £79 (thanks to a once in a blue moon collision of multiple money off and cashback offers).

It cleans well, and hasn't missed a beat yet. Even if the Beko explodes tomorrow, a £439 Bosch would have to last almost 30 years to beat it.

Based on this experience, there is no brand I wouldn't buy if the price was right.

I always buy Bosch products and so far not had any problems although I know what will happen now I've said that!.

The biggest problem I found was installation of the new product. Intended to put a shelf above the washing machine and stand the tumble dryer on the shelf, so the tumble dryer would need to be lifted onto that shelf. Years ago I would have done that myself but as I'm no longer able to do it, I needed the installers to lift the tumble dryer.

Currys said no, AO also said their staff wouldn't install above floor level. Went to a local white goods shop. They price matched the price and as Currys were doing a half price installation offer, they also matched that. Lifting onto shelf was no problem for them.

"AO also said their staff wouldn't install above floor level"  Really?  I bought a stacking kit with our machines, and AO installers put that in place,  and lifted the tumble dryer up onto the top of the washer,  no question  -  althouigh they did say they had never installed one before,  and I had to read out the stacking kit instructions for them !
