Electricity and gas standing charges - petition

I feel that standing charges are regressive and the calculation is opaque. I would like to see standing charges removed and added to the per kWh charge. This should be based on total cost divided by total kWh consumed to give a cost per kWh. Until 2013 I didn’t pay any standing charges and my energy costs were £200 pa. Now…

Loading the standing charge on to the kWh rates would penalise people who are at home all day, including the retired, those who are housebound because of disabilities and those who need to keep warm because of frailty or medical needs.
These groups are not necessarily the richest and the most profligate, but you want them to subsidise you. Sorry, but I won't be signing your petition.
