50 mins is okay, if it actually is - but from experience at rush hour a 50 min drive is easily 2 hours, hell my 20 min commute routinely took 50 mins, then add crashes into that equation.
I would never live that far from my work, unless it was one day a week.1 -
How much control do you have over where you go.boxer234 said:
It is I do go to a different school each day so the commute would vary and be different lengths.jimpwarsop said:Only you can decide, we are all different.I never travelled more than ten minutes, but I was mainly a shift worker, my son has done three hours each way with a ten hour day in between, but he was very young, he now does 45 minutes each way (he is 28) and is looking to change jobs to get nearer to home.Thing is, travelling the same route day after day is boring as hell.
Any way you can change your patch so you move to somewhere that you can get a catchment of schools that are closer.1 -
Some will be shorter basically I work all over the county but mostly in the south whereas house is just past north. Everyday is different.badger09 said:
If its a different commute every day, then presumably some will be shorter? At least you won't get bored with the same one every day. It sounds as though your quality of life outside work would be better in the village house, so.....boxer234 said:
I can happily amuse myself with car karaoke. I guess my biggest worry is fuel cost but my mortgage will be less than my rent so it should even put.brasso said:If this was me I’d go for the more peaceful rural location every single time. Quality of life is vitally important. You need to be able to switch off away from work. Instead of seeing your 50 min journeys as a burden, see them as an opportunity— to learn a language, listen to audiobooks, whatever. Have a plan and try to look forward to your commute.0 -
I manage my diary but can’t change my patch.getmore4less said:

As well as podcasts, can I recommend talking books for your commute, either as discs from your local library or narrated ones free from librivox, or even from online bookshops such as the one formerly known as cadabra. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

I hate commuting having done it for much of my working life, Combined with ridiculously long hours it means I have missed out on a lot of things that other people take for granted, Nowadays I have to put in an appearance occasionally and I hate it - its 2 hrs out of my day when I could be exercising. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
I know I run ultra marathons and train in the morning before work. I’d love to go part time to focus on my running but divorce is expensive.Rosa_Damascena said:
