Commute or location

Just interested in everyone’s thoughts. I’m currently trying to buy a house which in this market is fun! Ideally I want a village location. I like the quiet, countryside and have two big dogs who aren’t that easy to walk in busy places.
To get what I want I’m going to have to move out leaving me an approx 50 minute commute. I work in different locations and can work from home 1/2 day a week.
How long is everyone’s commute ? Is this reasonable or should I just suck it up and buy in a town ? My commute would then be reduced to 15 to 40 minutes depending on where I’m going.

Is the 50 minutes each way?
What method is the commute, car, train? If car, how much is in heavy traffic? Who pays the commuting costs?
Is the number of days you can work from home likely to increase?

I live in London, I aim to get a property within zone 2 and for that I gave up space. The commute is 15 minutes on one train, 5-10 mins waling either end.
I think 50 minutes is ok.1 -
I think 50 minutes is fine! As long as you have something to read or listen to, you just get used to it.1

I travel by car. I do get paid some mileage. The days I work from home are flexible I manage my own diary so some weeks I’m in 5 days a week others not. I’d have to arrange myself better if I moved away. It’s 50 minutes each way.400ixl said:Is the 50 minutes each way?

But not if you're driving!suzierthanyou said:I think 50 minutes is fine! As long as you have something to read, you just get used to it.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales3 -
Previous role was 13.5 miles, 30 mins in and upto 90 mins return with the commuter flow of traffic.
My current role is 30 miles, 30 mins each way, including walking door to car, and it's against traffic rather than with the commuter jam slow flow. Music and nice scenery makes for a better commute as does fast roads.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
If driving, I'd say it depends on the type of roads you're using, volume of traffic and what else you have to do each evening. I did slightly longer drive for a couple of years. It was ok in spring & summer but absolutely awful in winter. Arriving home after a long day, an hour's drive in the dark, and then having to put food on the table took its toll. Totally different to sitting on a train & reading/listening to music.2

Home to your permanent place of work isn't eligble business mileage.boxer234 said:

I think 50 mins is ok.
It’s not perfect/ideal, but then if you want to have the ideal living location you’re going to have to make a bit of a compromise somewhere.4 -
It won't always be the same time to commute as it will depend on traffic, congestion, construction etc.
I used to work 30 miles away from the office and that could take between 40 and 60 minutes. And one day took nearly 3 hours due to an accident.
Where I work now is about 7 miles and can take between 15 and 60 minutes depending on commuter traffic. I'm fortunate in that my times are flexible so when I need to go the office I head out at 9 when the only issue is the OAP drivers poodling along at 22 mph. It's no more than 30 minutes home if I leave before 4:45 or after 5:30. Anything in between means all the traffic slows everyone down to a crawl so I might as well stay and do some work rather than sit in a car wasting petrol in stationery traffic.
