Exclusive tariffs

bristolleedsfan said:Whilst article specifically relates to SVR tariff, I doubt very much if "Ofgem rules say existing customers and new customers must be offered the same tariffs" only applies to SVR tariffEqually I can't believe it means that any tariff must be available to all customers as there are a lot of tariffs that have specific qualification requirements, or are only available through certain partners like switching sites.I can't actually find any definitive origin for the statement in that news report that isn't in the context of the SVT being made available and it wasn't offered as an Ofgem quote in the news piece it was stated as a fact without a reference.

Ofgem's guide is here:I can't see anything in there (or in those of the SLCs that I've looked at) requiring that a supplier offer every tariff to every customer.

Until recently it was exactly the opposite situation where new customers were offered a cheap tariff to lure them, whilst existing customers could not get that cheap tariff (banks sometimes do this with interest rates)bristolleedsfan said:"Ofgem rules say existing customers and new customers must be offered the same tariffs"I think the Ofgem ruling was designed to deal with the latter problem.Additional references made to Ofgem within telegraph article, whilst it refers to SVR tariff it could easily have been about existing customer only tariff"While firms technically do not have to actively market loss-making tariffs, Ofgem said denying new customers the best rates was against the rules"
"A spokesman said: “Suppliers who offer standard variable tariffs to existing customers must also offer this to new customers.”

Ofgem were specifically referring to offering the SVR to new customers.Also, The Telegraph is not the official mouthpiece of Ofgem. Can you provide anything from Ofgem's own publications to show that a supplier must offer every tariff to every customer, without preconditions?N. Hampshire, he/him. That is not in effect yet and is aimed at preventing existing customers from being unable to get the same tariffs as new customers, it also includes the ability for suppliers to obtain derogations to allow them to continue to offer cheaper tariffs to existing customers if they want...Along with the 'Market Stabilisation Charge' the aim is to reduce the sort of predatory pricing that some of the failed suppliers were using to entice new customers to switch to them on terms that they were not offering to their entire customer base...

Thanks for posting the link (published today) which tells us:I look forward to seeing it in force.- Currently there is no obligation on suppliers to offer every tariff to every customer (otherwise Ofgem would not have to vary the SLCs);
- From the 14th of April, until at least the 30th of September, suppliers won't be permitted to discriminate against existing customers, and will have to offer them the same tariffs offered to new customers;
- Loyalty tariffs will continue to be permitted subject to Ofgem's agreement (see paras 3.23 and 3.24);
- Suppliers will still be permitted to discriminate against customers on other grounds (see LC 22B.2d) eg. EV owners.

EON.Next are offering a fixed 12 month tariff to existing customers, slightly lower than the April 2022 capped rate. It is called Next Online v10.In my case it makes the difference between a 43% increase if I stay on SVR, or 35% increase to move to the fixed. Other forum users have found that EON.Next will defer the start of the 12 month fixed tariff until 1 April.0
