Here's the entrance to a car park next to TK Maxx and it is run by Smart Parking...

This newspaper article confirms who runs this car park...
    www.burytimes.co.uk/news/19801167.defiant-motorist-blasts-bury-60-parking-ticket

But the car park right next to it - George Street Car Park - is council run and as you can see from the newspaper article, people do confuse the two.

Here's the entrance to the Council run car park...

That's the sensible thing to do.
It certainly isn't sensible to phone anyone.

If it's Smart, then you are safe as long as no-one tells them who was driving.

Sorry OP, that link wants me to spend time deciding upon their cookies, then, when you have done that, you cannot see anything apart from adverts and, when you do realise you have scrolled past the main event you have to agree to do a survey.  No time for surveys; can you take an extract and post that please?

so basically , where it parked - it seems one area is owned by SMART and the the other by bury council, i have no idea who will get the pleasure of sending me a parking charge notice - its a mystery but ill await some form of letter and see what to do next on this very comprehensive forum.  Thanks everyone, watch this space.........

No idea, but H.M.Land Registry will tell you for a small fee if you are really interested.
