I see no issue sending ID to get personal data such as this. When people ask me , i always say just send copy of driving licence/passport or V5 , it really isnt worth the hassle of going back and forth. What on earth do people think someone is going to do with a picture of a passport
Yes they may not be "nice" companies but do you really think something is going to happen with a passport photo
just make it easy!1 -
Just forget it.
There's a reason I tend to not come to the forum as often any more.1 -

Do they have access to the Passport Agency's systems as well as the DVLA's?
It's all very well asking for some form of ID, but you need something to compare it against to validate it.
There can be many occasions where a company/body/agency may ask for proof of ID and has no way to validate it.1 -
I don't mind if I do have to send photo ID, but the newbies post states that I don't have to. I just want to do the best thing to minimise hassle and not pay the ridiculous fine.0

The previous post was correct - you don't have to send photo ID as there is nothing to reference the photo against. However it is an official form of ID so you could easily redact it by masking the photo and date of birth etc., leaving only the licence number, name and address visible.

Apart from the NEWBIE sticky stating you don't have to provide photo ID (especially a passport) because the PPC do not have a photo database of everyone in the UK, passports do not have an address in them - so how can they prove that - the ICO state that you do not have to send and the PPC should not ask for intrusive ID.3

If you complain to the ICO please copy it to your MP.You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0
